Breastfeeding

pumping

Ladies,
I have a question about pumping. I am wondering how often do I need to pump after baby is born. This is my second child but the first one we ended up bottle feeding because she wouldn't latch and a few other issues. So I am not really sure how often I need to pump in order to help my milk come in. I plan on taking my pump to the hospital with me just not sure how often to do it. Thanks in advance!

Re: pumping

  • Unless there is an underlying issue there is no need to pump before three weeks, let alone bring your pump to the hospital.

The only time you need to pump is when baby is given a bottle, or after a breastfeeding session if you have a true low supply.

  • This is what I am concerned about my oldest had jaundice so they gave her a bottle in the hospital. I understand that I shouldn't have to pump but I don't want my milk to dry out if this happens again. I want to make sure that I can at least give my child my breast milk even if they are bottle fed. I was completely distraught about not being able to breastfeed last time around. after the bottle we tried to breast feed and she just wouldn't stay latched. She would then cry and cry because she was hungry. I had to give in and bottle feed but by that time my milk was not there any more.
