NBR (well, it is a little bit!) - Garage Sale Advertising?

We're clearing out our 3rd bedroom for baby (our "garage" since we don't actually have one), and we are going to have a garage sale at my in-laws. I've never had one before, and my parents haven't had one since the days of advertising it in the classifieds/penny saver!

How do I do this now-a-days? Do I put it on craigslist ( :( - I'm scared of craigslist!)? Or do I just put signs up the morning of???

  • I would post on the garage sale section of craigslist. I would also see if your local paper has free online classifieds. I know i used to look on both sources when looking for garage sales with specific items.

  • Craigslist and put signs up the week before in the area. You need to give a specific address and start time or else you'll have people showing up at 6!

  • Definitely advertise! As we speak I am eating lunch with a highlighter and our local paper's garage sale section!

  • As much as advertising in the newspaper seems dated, it's still the number one way to advertise for garage sales. It might cost around $20, that's what I've paid in the past, but it's worth it. Also on Craigslist and Facebook. Plus lots of signs around the neighborhood:)

There's an online yard sale community called bookoo. If you go to lejueneyardsales.com you can navigate up to a select your city page and see if there's one near you. It's like Craigslist but no one has been murdered or raped using it (as far as I know).

Eta: theta and there's are not the same word. I had to fix that.
