Opinion about sleeping arrangement for LO #2

DD will be nearly 3 when LO#2 arrives in February.  She has been sleeping in her convertible toddler bed since just before her second birthday.  My question is: should we buy another convertible crib for the new baby or buy DD a toddler bed and set her crib up again?

Pro's?  Con's?  Overthinking?

Toddler beds have such a limited lifespan
This is what made me wonder about it in the first place.  Buying a twin bed makes sense.

  • Twin. You can always put just the mattress on the floor for a while if you worry about her falling out. We have that set up for C and she loves it.

  • Yep, I vote just buy a twin if you're going ro buy anything.

Now...sorry to hijack your thread, OP, but question for y'all. If you already had a perfectly functional queen bed, would you move said toddler into the queen bed or buy a twin? Im thinking we'll just use the queen to save us the money, but I didn't know if there was a benefit to going with a twin.

  • @MrsT0514‌ I would go with the queen to save money. The only thing would be if you plan for toddler to eventually end up in a twin, they might not like the change to less space at that point. That said, my kids will take whatever bed I see fit to put them in and like it. I once had a hallway changed into a bedroom for me, except it still got used as a hallway. I have low standards for what makes a good bedroom :)

  • @MrsT0514‌ We have a double mattress so that's what DD will be using when she's ready for a big girl bed.
OP, I'm also on team twin bed for you.
  • Thanks ladies, that was my train of thought too. The queen mattress is just sitting, and its super comfy so we might as well put it to use. I also figured, this way, if DS wakes up in MOTN from.a bad dream or if he's sick, DH or I can just easily sleep with him instead of bringing him into our bed.

  • @CtGirl30 yeah, lack of space in his room will be the only downside to having a queen bed in there. But oh well. It should work for now until we can figure something else out.

  • I vote for regular bed too. We are in the same situation here. My 3 year old was using her toddler bed converted from her crib, and now we need the crib again, so we just put her in a regular size bed.

  • Ikea has a nice (and cheap!) solid wood frame twin bed. It's low to the ground and doesn't need a boxspring as it has slats (more comfortable IMHO). I bought it to 'stage' my office as a bedroom when I was trying to sell my house and now we are keeping it for when LO is bigger.
