Annoying Rib(?) Pain

I've been having this weird pain in what I guess is my ribs. High though, like right under my boob on my left side. I had it a few days then it went away so of course I forgot to ask my OB at my visit yesterday. It came roaring back last night  when I was eating dinner so I thought maybe even acid reflux, but it lasted all night and is still there this morning.

I had rib pain with DD, but in the back and not until way later. Anyone having anything like this? Any ideas what it might be if not ribs? My OB is out today, but I'll head to my chiropractor at lunch to see if there's anything else he can do. Hopefully it doesn't involve him feeling me up too much, since it's right under my boob haha.

Oh the joys of pregnancy!

Re: Annoying Rib(?) Pain

  • Yes!!! I've been having this for over a week but on my right side under my boob. It feels like it should be muscular but it's my ribs unless something under there is flaring up, and I can't lay on my right side without the rib pain. No idea what could be causing it so let me know if you find out :)

I made it over to the chiropractor and it was definitely a rib. The pain isn't totally gone, but I feel a lot of relief. He also suggested ice. Hope yours gets better too!

  • omg i have been having this pain under my right boob for 3 weeks now and it usually starts by the afternoon and hurts til i go to bed... i even switched to larger comfy nursing bras which helped but not completely. going to mention it at my next dr apt but glad it's not just me!
  • I had this with DS. Started about 22w. Didn't get better sorry to say until he was born. It just got worse.
Doc sent me to pregnancy physio but they couldn't help me as it's not a moveable part of the body.
As baby grew it pushed my rib cage out more and the pain was so bad. It's just things expanding and putting pressure on rib ligaments. People with short torsos like myself can suffer more.
I couldn't take anti inflammitories and paracetamol did nothing for the pain.
I was super miserable. After just getting over bad HG at 21w then this at 22w!
To make matters worse at 6m I sneezed violently while half way out of a reclining chair and something on that left side of my ribs audibly 'Popped' felt like a bass string of a cello pinging. So painful.
Doc couldn't X-ray me obviously so I had to suffer. Turns out the injury was a torn ligament (luckily not a break) in my ribcage. Didn't help with the original rib pain!

I'm praying the pain doesn't return this time round but it's very likely as baby gets bigger. One of the joys of pregnancy I'm afraid.

If yours comes back I'd say try chiropractic. I went this morning and my pain is about 90% better!

  • I have been feeling a lot of rib pain lately as well Starting last week at 21w, most of it is on my left side behind my arm, it actually feels like my rib cage is stretching. It begins in the afternoon and doesn't really go away until I go to bed.
