Advice needed on genetic tests!

My husband and I cannot decide what genetic tests we want to get done or if we should have any done at all. My doctor said if you are the kind of person who wants to plan then have them but if you're the kind of person who doesn't want to stress then don't. But I'm BOTH! I am also adopted so I have no medical history/no way of getting any. Any advice???? Thanks!!

Re: Advice needed on genetic tests!

  • We went sooo back and forth on the nt scan for my fear of a false positive. But my dr told me if they saw anything iffy on the scan they would draw a free DNA cell test that is over 99% accurate the day of the scan. As someone who works with kids with severe special needs, I am
Hoping to get good reassurance from doing it. And just remember for all the bad stories you hear there 100 good! Good luck:)

  • This is an extremely personal decision. We opted out of any tests or screenings since we have very few risk factors, if any, and I know with my anxiety disorder I'll focus on the numbers and panic. If we see any indicators of a problem during one of our ultrasounds well go from there.
  • It's really up to you. My honey doesn't know his father, and I don't know my mother so we chose to do it. My daughter was born with a cleft lip and palate, and I didn't know she had it until she was born. Most of the time things are fine, but if something was wrong we wanted to be prepared for it. It's a personal choice, do what you feel is right for you :)
