@SuperTinkerham They sure can! I researched this too because I need to burn through some FSA $ before the year end. I actually bought a small single electric that has batteries to take to Boston on our trip because hauling the Medela double seemed insane. I vote do it!
I'm absolutely considering the same thing and was wondering if it's an insane idea. My hands were already full going in and out of house for work before LO, now add baby, infant carrier, diaper bag, etc. It would be nice just to have a pump at work. BTW, I haven't started back to work yet.
I don't think that's crazy. Also, a friend offered me her pump she no longer uses and people offer pumps on my town's mommy facebook page. So possibly you don't even need to buy one. I'm thinking of the ameda where the milk stays external to the pump.
I did it! I have one at home and one at the office. I just bring my supplies home each day to wash and bring them back in the morning and those fit right in my computer bag!

I was thinking the same thing. But then maybe like someone else said I could just leave it at work. But then that would get DH off the evening feed hook which gave me precious shower and get crap done time. My flex got zeroed out from the hospital already so if I buy one it's all out of pocket. Nit sure how I would feel about using someone else's, even with the external milk storage.
I plan on pumping once at home before work, so keeping it up there M-f isn't feasible. I'm skeeved by the used pump, too. Even though it's pretty irrational..
Since I am not EPing I will probably take my pump and pumping paraphernalia on Monday and leave everything but the parts that need washing in my office until Friday. Obviously if you are EPing that won't work for you though.
WhyTF did this never occur to me when I was pumping for my boys!? I schlepped that thing back and forth for TWO years. Argh. You're so smart!
If you're lazy, I am too - I have two. I kept my first from DS and just bought a second. I think it will be a huge time saver. My new pump is a Spectra. I'd never heard of it until I saw it on Amazon, but it's awesome. I can pump about 50% more milk in about half the time as I can with my Medela PIS. It wasn't covered by insurance (which was my initial plan) but it was $180 and so worth it! The only bummer is the bottles are not compatible with my PIS bottles, and I have a ton of Medela bottles from when I pumped with DS.
I wish I had three. Days off I pump twice a day at home. Days on I bring LO to my inlaws in the AM, pump once there, and then go to work 8 am to 9 pm and pump 3 times. A work, home and inlaws pump would be clutch.
I have an older medela PIS I used with DS (it's actually barely used since medela had a recall on the one I had and they replaced it when DS was 10 months old) and an Ameda purely yours, which I got through insurance. I am leaving my PIS at the office since that is where I pump the most and I get more milk with the PIS than the Ameda. The PIS is also quieter than the Ameda.

I was given a second pump from a friend but my pediatrician and hospital lactation consultants said do not use someone else's unless it had been professionally cleaned. I'm not sure how to go about that though...
DO IT :-) i did and let me just tell ya, it is so easy. I had bought one a while ago that i use at home, Medela Pump In Style with the bag and all of that. Then i ordered the pump that the insurance covers, which is also a Medela Pump In Style but this one is only the pump, no bag, so it is small enough to take to work. I can keep one in the living room and one in the bedroom. anything that makes life easy is welcomed in my home
@RichLab aw! You had a little boy too! Wow 42wks? Jeez. We had a few more babies here who were pretty late as well. My little guy, Max, came at 38wks haha he turned out to be a June baby.
@jensavicci there have been so many boys born this year! there were 20 other mommies having their baby in july that i personally know, all having boys! the night my son was born, 14 other babies were born too, all boys!
he had no interest in coming out, but when he did he was so chilled, he didnt stress about a thing! i was induced and told that induction can cause babies to be in some stress, he was the opposit, so chilled, hardly cried, all he wanted was boob. he latched on about 10minutes after birth and has not let it go since haha
