PSA: Target Baby Registry

I saw the attached photo on Facebook and thought it was kind of important. I don't have a target registry, but for all of you that do I would check with your local target to see what the deal is. Hopefully the post isn't affecting everyone.

Re: PSA: Target Baby Registry

  • Not surprising.
It sounds like a PITA.  Although maybe "you" can print out the registry?  My wedding registries lasted almost 2 years! can't imagine only a month after due date...

@twolittledogs ya I think that's the point.  According to the poster they just started only keeping your registry available for a month after your due date, so they wouldn't have access to your registry - therefore you wouldn't be able to return things bought off it.  If that makes sense?

  • My friend just had her baby last December and had no problems at all with returns. Our target said if its on our registry we can return it without a problem.

My wedding was almost 2 years ago, but returns at Target were sooo easy.  We had no receipts they just scanned everything against the registry.  I'm a bit confused because I keep seeing posts about Target sucking for returns and I don't get it.  Unless something has changed since then, Target was awesome about returns.  We had another registry at Kohl's and those returns were a nightmare.

  • Good to know - I've never had a problem returning anything at target but I'll definitely ask customer service their policy just to be sure. Thanks!
  • Returns are easy if the cashier scanned the registry at time of purchase. If the buyer didnt have the registry scanned, there's no record of the transaction so Target doesn't know the sales price. You can also return non-registry items if the buyer had the cashier scan the registry. All my shower guests had gift receipts or had the registry scanned so I had no issues with returns.

  • I have worked at Target for the last 6.5 years, mostly as a cashier and at guest service. I went part time about 2 years ago. They recently upgraded their registry system, mostly the devices used to scan items and the in-store kiosks. I have not heard anything about them getting rid of the registry after 30 days. I work this weekend and will double check.

Usually, when an item is from a registry, a gift purchase log can be used for a return, allowing up to $150 even if the item wasn't purchased off the registry. The items that weren't purchased off the registry will be the lowest selling prices in the last 90 days due to no proof of purchase. Since Target's return policy is 90 days it would not make sense for them to get rid of a registry after only 30 days. If you have more than $150 in no receipt/registry returns an ID can then be used for up to another $75. It is $75 per ID, includes yours, SO, and a passport if available. If it is over $75 an exchange can usually be done for something in the same department at the same cost or higher.

Here is what I also found on the website:

    https://m.target.com/HelpContent?help=/sites/html/TargetOnline/help/returns_and_refunds/registry_return_policy/registry_return_policy.html

I don't know how to make it a clicky link. It says with a registry, you have 90 days after the event date to return most new, unused, or unopened items. From work experience, I know some electronics have a 30 day return policy.
