Sciatica misery

I have been battling sciatica for about a week and a half now that not only is the nerve pain the goes down into my foot, but I've had a permanent cramp in my calf, my heel is killing me, and now I've got pins and needles in my heel, outside of my foot, and my toes. I'm only 21 weeks and my OB said it might just be my pelvis expanding. Taking Tylenol with codeine so I can sleep at night but mornings are the worst...so tight and sore! Anyone dealing with anything like this????

Re: Sciatica misery

  • Yes. Sometimes I wanna cry just from standing. I find that if I'm moving it seems better, but as soon as I stand still it hurts really bad and my legs cramp from buttocks to calves.

  • I've had some bad nerve pain in my back too. I woke up screaming the other night because I couldn't move the pain was so bad.
  • Not yet. My last pregnancy it got really bad near the end. If you have the benefits or cash flow to get massages, that did help. And warm baths.
  • I have it something terrible! With all my pregnancies actually. Sometimes, I'm completely stuck in a position and need my hubby to help me up! It's a shooting pain that makes me limp and walk like an old lady... It's bad! And it started much earlier this time so I'm a bit worried about the end of this pregnancy... Eeeeekkkk!!!!
  • Mine was bad too for a while. My OB recommended a limited treatment of flexaril (I took it just at night for about a week) and I saw my chiropractor regularly. Plus I did a lot of heat/ice. One of the above finally helped and I've been pain free (back pain free at least) for almost a month!

  • During my second pregnancy I would get caught off guard with a shock of sciatica and literally had to crawl across the floor on more than one occasion. Hoping I don't have it this time around. Incidentally my husband has pretty wicked sciatica right now. He went to the walk-in today and they have him on percs. Man, we just have to tough it out!
  • My chiropractor is good, but my joints tend to slip right back into an uncomfortable position if I don't take care of the muscles causing my problem. I've found that stretching the piriformis muscle works the best for me.

  • I have been dealing with this for about 2 weeks now. My back is killing me! I never had this issue with DD.

  • Chiropractor! It's not going to be a one time fix either. They should be able to suggest pregnancy friendly exercises to strengthen the muscles so that eventually when everything is adjusted, it will stay.
  • I feel your pain, there are so days I can barely walk its so painful. Honestly, resting and a heating pad are the only thing that helps. What doesn't help is having a two year old that says in her very sweetest voice "mommy sit on the floor and play with me"!
