Cloth Diapering

Ugh...stink question...

So over the last week we've started to have some stink issues. It's not ammonia, so I'm going with barnyard as those seem to be our 2 choices. I think it's buildup from hard water because DH just told me that he disconnected our water filter that takes out a lot of the minerals in our well water because it clogged. The new filter is coming tomorrow so our water should be back to normal.

Because of that, I'm thinking I should not mess with the wash routine just yet....but what should I do? Hot water strip? RLR? Bleach? All of the above? In what order?

Oh, and when should I start soaking our ON diapers? Cold or hot water for the soak?

Re: Ugh...stink question...

  • Just my thought but soaking them in water would only expose it to more mineral buildup yes?

I would go with RLR to soak and calgon when washing.

Did I get it right? ;;)

  • I would say rlr too.

  • I have hard water and I also vote for RLR.

As for soaking, I started soaking our ON diapers a while ago. I rinse them out first and then sit them for a few hours in a little pail with hot water. It really helps.

  • Yes I soak my diapers too. Helps with the smell and gives it an extra little rinse.

I meant it wouldn't work as a treatment to build up.
  • I would also consider using a tiny bit more detergent in your regular wash routine, just unto you get the new filter in place. Just make us everything gets rinsed out really well.
