Baby monitor preference

I'm a soon-to-be new mom and can't seem to find a baby monitor. I do not want one that uses WiFi and was leaning to just an audio one. (I've heard creepy things about people gaining access to the video monitor and watching the baby!) Looking for any suggestions!!

Re: Baby monitor preference

  • We have the Motorola video one, and have been happy with it. We've used it for a little over two years, and it's still going strong. It doesn't use wifi, so I'm not worried about anyone hacking it.
  • Loading the player...
  • I tried digging around the pacific coast of vancouver, and nada! Following.
  • I regretted getting an audio only monitor. With my first baby I was nervous and ended up waking her all the time going in to check on her. Video would've helped a ton.
  • I'm a first timer, but from talking to friends, they really liked the monitors with two way audio, especially as their kids get older.  They also swear by a video monitor....small house or big house...it helped them relax a bit and be able to look at baby without dashing to their room every 5 seconds.  While I have heard of the random wifi hacking stories....they make some incredible cameras that are virtually hack-proof.

We are leaning towards getting just an incredible camera that we can use with our iphones or computers...that we could then put someplace else in the house down the road if we so choose.  Samsung makes a great camera that has two way audio, you can mark zones of motion in the room to be alerted immediately (i.e. crib, window, door, etc).  I always thought we would just get an audio monitor and i could easily check on my son in his room....but in talking to others, we might go the higher-tech route.

  • Cheapo one way audio brand 1 has been working for 4.5 years, the other for3.
  • We only had an audio one for my older two and I wish we'd had a video one. It would have saved many needless trips to their room to make sure they were actually sleep "talking" not up and moving around. This baby will be in the room next to us so we don't really need the audio, but plan on getting a video monitor.
  • I love our video monitor. We also have a Motorola that doesn't use wi-fi. I feel like the video is even more helpful now that DD has gotten a little older. If she wakes up crying, I can see if she's putting herself back to sleep or if something is really wrong.

  • We also have the Motorola video monitor and we love it. It's not on wifi, so it can't be hacked. Having video is a real benefit to me. It gives me peace of mind,  plus I can tell when she's quiet but awake. We are just going to get a second camera for the new baby.
