Calling All Teachers

I'm starting to feel very overwhelmed of getting things ready. The first few weeks of school are crazy enough, let alone trying to prepare everything for a sub to come in. It's so tedious to write out all the classroom procedures and routines. I am lucky I only need to provide three days worth of plans for when I actually go out, but I can't seem to find the time or energy to even get one full day planned ahead of time. Can anyone else relate? How can I get my ass in gear?!?!

OMG! Im so glad im not the only one. Im at school non stop- trying to type our procedures, get my kindergartners used to our normal routine, and oh yah, assessing everything!! I can so relate. I get so grouchy about it. ha

This is my first year teaching third grade so I feel super overwhelmed taking on the task of getting all of these programs and procedures up and running for the sub that comes in. I try and not stress out about it since I know it isn't good for my health but the fear of knowing I could go at any time is really starting to get to me. Luckily I know I have a super experienced sub coming in (she taught third grade for 30+ years and I know she will do a wonderful job)! Currently I go into school an hour early and that's about all of the extra time I give to school as of right now, I just physically can't do anymore and have a 4 year old that needs me to be mommy in the evening so I have to disperse what little energy I have evenly. Not too much longer and then we can be home with our babies!

Oh my....I echo what others have said. So stressful and exhausting at this time of the year. I teach first and my administrator has yet to even interview for my long term position. And I'm due October 5th. So there's that...

We had to sort our our own long term sub so I got that squared away in the spring. Luckily I have someone who I know will do a good job. Also I work with a team of teachers and we collaborate on assignments and tests so they will help the sub out with lesson plans and assignments. I worry though about how I'm just going to learn the 160 names and then be out and forget them all.

As for procedures I teach high school so not sure how much I have to prepare. I guess I should sit down and start planning all that out. I need to write instructions for posting on my website, posting on my google calendar for students, and other stuff. Ok I think I just got overwhelmed

I feel you all. I have been off since last Monday because of the swelling in my feet and legs (edema) and contractions. Luckily I had already gotten my sub last school year at the end of the year. I teach middle school so I don't really have to teach that many procedures and my sub is a lot like me as far as classroom management. As far as lesson plans go, I already planned for a week and the sub is doing the rest. She is great! I just gave her all my passwords to get into everything, per my principal, and she will go in and do lesson plans and grades. I just worry she won't cover the content I want covered and I will be lost when I get back. For all of you still teaching I feel sorry for you and wish you the best of luck!

I was just told this week who my permanent sub would be. We have already talked and figured out what standards she would like to cover while I am gone. I haven't thought about actually writing stuff down yet. I don't have enough time to plan out what I'm doing next week, let alone what I'll be doing next month. I might try to start on it this weekend.

I feel the same way, I just got hired 2 weeks ago and now getting everything all set with the class room and prepare for a sub that's not even lined up yet! Yikesss. Hang in there!!

I didn't get a chance to get things together for my sub. I expected to work a few weeks of this school year before delivery but delivered early. So I am relying on my other kindergarten teachers to help my sub with all the routines and procedures. I am super nervous about returning in January and not knowing how the students are going to act.

I hear you loud and clear. I have a student teacher until I leave; she's been awesome and gives me time to start planning during the day as she's leading the classroom 4 out of 8 periods already. We just confirmed my LT sub, which I'm not particularly fond of, but he will do. I have 5 different preps, as I teach high school and one middle school class each day. It's a huge task planning that many lessons, but I've found if I set small goals each day my list is slowly getting shorter.
Good luck to all. Remember we won't think twice about our classrooms once the littles are here. At least that's what I've been told from other teacher-moms.

I'm supposed to be sitting in on an interview on Monday morning for a potential sub. I really hope it works out so he can shadow me at least one day. I have most everything ready to go, but I'm still anxious for them to actually see how things work in my class. When I went through this when I had DS everything worked out great. Just do as much as you can and everything will work out. Once your LO is here nothing in your classroom will really matter. They will survive without us. GL ladies!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I found out today who my long term sub will be. She's been in our building for several long term positions and is currently in for the kindergarten teacher who will return to school at the end of September. Her experience is mostly in primary (I teach 4th grade) but at least she knows the school, staff, and most routines. Definitely helps ease things up a bit. Phew!

It's the end of the 2nd week of school and they still don't have a sub for me! I was put on bedrest 3 weeks ago. I'm a Resource Teacher though so I don't have a class all to myself but I'm stressin' on my kiddos not having their point person (me) for the transition to a new grade/teacher! Hoping they hire someone soon to get my pull out program up and running.

My sub is squared away and is awesome...she was another teacher's long term last year when she had her baby, and we became friends. I am only worried, really, about my yearbook class....I really need to plan some stuff and also train her on how to use the program so she can work with the kids. Also, there seems to be some confusion with my dates on my doctor's note and it's stressing me out.

Yay! I made it to the second week of school! Three more weeks to go for me and there is so much more to do! I just found a long term sub. She was working as an intervention teacher at our school last year so I feel comfortable that she will be okay since our principal hired her last year for it. I think she will work well with my grade level.

I still need to finish testing my kids, write lesson plans for a few weeks, get ready for open house in two weeks, get reading groups started. Ahh too much to do! The beginning of the year is stressful enough let alone adding on being 36 weeks pregnant.

I completely understand and can probably make you feel better because my situation is worst-case for a teacher! My due date is October 19. I teacher 4th grade and we moved back into our building after renovations last year. I had gone in during the last few weeks of August to unpack. However, I saved a little for the first 2 days of school since they had given us time. Unfortunately, at 10:30pm the night before the first day, my water ruptured prematurely and I was rushed to the hospital. I've been here since then, waiting to induce tomorrow. I missed finishing my classroom and the first day of school!!! I will now be out until my leave ends and didn't get to even start the year, let alone meet with my sub!! Talk about stress!!

I feel ya! I teach prek in the public school system and all I can do is make it through the day ! I go home and lay down for a couple of hours before I can get up again! My feet and ankles are swelling and I really need to be working overtime to get ahead but im just to tired , not to mention I have my own 4yr old at home

I teach in a 7/8th grade self-contained classroom for students with emotional and behavioral needs. It's tough in there. They hired a co-teacher for me and she quit the first day! We havent been able to find another teacher with the right qualifications and due to the population I teach, we don't hire subs. We've been in session for a month and I plan to leave within the next two weeks. I'm super stressed about who will take over my class and what they will do. I'm a total type-a person so leaving my students and classroom in the hands of someone else is killing me.
