4 mo old transition from rock and play

Hello ladies,

LO has loved sleeping in his rock and play since he we brought him home, and he has been too big to sleep all night in there, we are trying to get him introduced to his pack n play so he can sleep in our bedroom.  Well he hates it! I try and put him in there to nap during the day but he rolls around and ends up on his side onto the mesh liner and gets mad.  He has napped in his crib for short periods and on our bed during the day (under my supervision of course) but I am SO mad they don't have a Step 2 Rock n Play.  LOL our Pedi said to try and get him out of the swaddling/ tight secure sleeping.  I know it's going to be an adjustment because he doesn't know what to do with all the extra space. We will lay him on his back he'll roll onto his side against the end and get mad.  I just don't think it's comfortable.  I put two blankets under the sheet because it feels like a big piece of cardboard with it.  SO have any of you had a similar experience and is there any suggestions besides pack and play or crib? --I've looked a little bit but I've only come across swings and bassinet type things.  THANKS!!!

Totally up to you but I feel like if your lo wasn't in a rocknplay you would have to stop swaddling when they start to roll which it sounds like your lo does. I would just bite the bullet and put your lo in the crib to sleep and just deal with a few rough nights to get your lo sleeping in the crib. Whatever you choose it's going to be an adjustment period. Just taking my son out of a swaddle was two rough nights. Then when my lo rolled over it was two weeks of hell. They freak out when they get to their tummy yet they end of sleeping that way because they roll as soon as you lay them down. They pretty much recall all of the foam blocks they use to use to keep your baby laying up in the crib due to suffocation issues. So there really isn't anything made for the crib to confine them. If you do a swing or bassinet you will just have to break that later as well. Good luck!

  • We transitioned LO at 3.5 months from RNP to crib. We never swaddled. She's not a huge fan of napping in there but sleeps through the night in it. It was a much smoother transition than I thought it would be. We sleep much better too now that she is in her own room. We can watch tv in our bedroom now!! ;)

  • We just made the transition from RNP to sleeping flat in the bassinet last week. It's been a little rough. I've been having a much harder time getting her to stay asleep at the beginning of the evening, but after that she has been sleeping ok the rest of the night. I don't think she is a fan of the bassinet and not really being able to move around, so we are going to try the crib tonight. I would say just keep at it, better to do it now and just get it over with! Good luck!

  • I put blankets under the sheet to make it softer, and I also put rolled blankets under the sheet on one side of LO, and put her next to the side of the PNP on the other side. Neither of these things is probably recommended, but seemed to help. I removed the roll, and still doing ok. We are up more times a night than we used to be, but I'm hoping that gets better. Probably should have just put her in the crib, but I like having her next to me. Good luck!

  • We had the exact same issue with our daughter. We ended up putting her in her crib for naps to help with transition then for bedtime once she was used to it. We kept swaddling until she rolled over. Then we used the zipadee zip sack for her and she still uses it. She loves that thing and she can move around in it. If your baby loves the swaddle, why break them of it until its a safety issue. I think a lot of babies need that secure/cozy feeling, i know ours did!
