birthday party check in 9/4-10

i'm not sure if i'm jumping the gun, but hey, what the heck. let's start the once a week check in's for birthday parties? any objections? when do the birthday parties start, anyway?

are you having a birthday party 9/4-9/10? talk about it here, then come back to this thread to post photos, so we don't have a billion different threads in the coming weeks.

theme? number of guests? favors? food? decorations? what else?

Good point... Each person will have lots of pics, so maybe we shouldn't consolidate.

aaaaaaahhhhh - all this birthday party talk is stressing me out! Zero planning. Not even sure we're going to have a party yet.

DH thinks my 23 adult, 11 child guest list is too long and doesn't want to do anything special. Also, if we do have one, we're not sure what to do about poor Bally. She's not good in party situations, she gets too anxious and barks the whole time and is snappy around children. In the past we've just put her in the bedroom and she's fine there and settles down easily but she can't make it up the stairs anymore with her arthritis. She's 50 lbs though, so I don't know that I'd be able to carry her safely up and down the stairs to get to the bedroom. DH won't do it because he's a big wuss and doesn't want the party anyway.

I feel really bad for you that your DH isn't excited about the party. No help, just creepy internet hugs.

Whichever people want to do! I think we talked about doing this a few weeks ago. Maybe I stopped following that thread. I don't remember.

This! If we lived closer I'd offer to help you plan, decorate and set up, and then take Bally to the park for the day.

@wedding06 thanks for the ideas! We haven't tried anything like that. She basically just lives downstairs now. We'll definitely try a harness!

It's only one week at a time. Maybe the current week could get stickied for that week plus a few days. Since most parties will probably be on the weekend, maybe sticky it like Wednesday to Wednesday?

We got a harness called the Help em Up harness. It is a guy in CA that makes them but I found it much better quality than what I saw in stores. It was really helpful. If you just need to help him with his back end you can also fashion a long towel or sheet to help him walk up the stairs. Basically suspend him a little so he can put most of his weight on the front end.

I think you are thinking of CO, not CA? I am pretty sure they are made here, if its the same brand as the harness I have. I've been to the warehouse in Denver - got our 70lb black lab a harness because he can't go up and down the stairs any more. It helps us get him in and out of our car too! We love the Help Em Up!
