When one twin is sick

How do you keep the germs away from the other one?

Right now I'm trying to keep pacis, burp cloths, and Boppies separate. They don't share bottles, so no worries there. Anything else I should think about? This is daunting!

Re: When one twin is sick

  • I only stopped sharing pacis and bottles.  I didn't separate them otherwise.  I figured the other one was probably going to get sick eventually anyway so I might as well have it overlap.

D & L are here at 34 weeks 4 days by vaginal and breech delivery on 11/19/2013
Two healthy boys weighing 4 lbs 15 ozs and 4 lbs 5 ozs.  Only 6 days in the NICU and getting bigger, stronger and cuter every day!

  • I don't bother anymore but one got croup really bad at 2mo and I didn't want the other to get it too. I did separate burp cloths, pacifiers, blankets, bouncers and I washed my nips prior to and after nursing. I also washed hands or purrell-ed in between touching babies (mostly). I basically followed standard NICU protocol.

  • I figure its pretty inevitable that they will both get it and don't even bother trying to keep the germs away, at least for run of the mill illnesses like colds.

  • So far they have only had a minor cold hear or there. I didn't do anything different.I feel like it's impossible to not have them sharing germs , I let them share everything.

We've tried (with a LOT of effort) to keep the other from catching it in the past, and NEVER have we succeeded. It really was always a lost cause.

Uh, yeah. I say just get it over with. Having one twin get sick just as the other is finally getting better BLOWS.

  • I did EVERYTHING to separate them. Just as my son was getting better my daughter came down with the cold. I wish they both would have been sick at the same time rather than one after another. I won't go through the trouble of keeping them that separate again.
