Finally getting around the Addison’s birth story,
partially because I was waiting on her adorable newborn pictures
Kinda long,
but squishy pictures at the end make it worth it J
I had a doctor’s appointment on Thursday August 14th where I learned I had progressed a little more to 2 cm/ 60% effaced. I was 38 weeks and 1 day so he stripped my membranes. Ouch! But nothing but cramps came about that day. I even took a long walk that night.
The morning of August 16th I lost my mucous plug. Absolutely disgusting, I have no idea how anyone could miss that happening. And it totally freaked me out. I walked around the house saying “oh shit oh shit”. I had been waiting and wanting to go into labor but this was too real. I kept telling myself that it really meant nothing, but could possibly mean something. That evening we had the beer and diaper party BF family hosted for us…I continued to lose my plug but didn’t feel anything out of the ordinary. We had a great time and I had to drag BF away from the campfire at midnight. It was his party and we were enjoying ourselves with our friends, BF had a little too much to drink so I drove home.
August 17th (38 weeks and 4 days)
12:00am We get home from our party and immediately crash, BF isn’t wasted, just buzzed, we laughed and giggled about how much fun it was, how great it was to see everyone, and how spoiled our little girl would be. We fell asleep quickly.
2:30am I woke up to pains. Immediately I knew that this was it! I was too uncomfortable to lay in bed so I stood up and leaned against the bed. Contractions started at 5 minutes apart. I wanted to make sure they weren’t going to stop so I waited until 3 to wake BF. He woke immediately but I could tell he hadn’t slept off the buzz (of course, who expected me to go into labor!) I never thought the contractions hurt to badly, mostly pain in my back, I was able to calmly breathe through them. I started telling BF what needed to be packed last minute and told him we would stay home for at least an hour. He ate and showered so he could pull himself together.
4am The contractions were no worse and no closer, but I was beginning to be scared that I would start going quickly, or that it would stop. We decided to just leave and figure out what was going on. It was a half hour ride and it was pretty uncomfortable because I wasn’t free to move around.
5am we were put in a room. They checked me. 2 cm/100%. Hooked me to the monitors for an hour.
5:45am they told me to get up and walk for fifteen minutes and then they would check for progress. If I had made some I was staying and if I hadn’t I would be sent home. Some of the contractions I had to stop and pause and lean on BF through, so I was REALLY hoping I wouldn’t be sent home.
6:00am 3 cm/100%! We were admitted and we were both so excited! They started my fluids and antibiotics for GBS+ and all the paperwork. We called our families.
8:00am 4cm/100% they allowed me to stay on monitor for 20 minutes then be free to move around a bit which was amazing. My contractions never really felt any worse and they didn’t get any closer than 5 minutes apart, I really was impressed with how well I was doing.
10:00am I was at 5cm and they offered me the epi. The doctor had just came in and I would be his first patient. At this point I wasn’t in to much pain but I knew it would eventually get worse and although I was terrified to get it I thought I should get it now while I’m still decently comfortable than later when things weren’t tolerable. So I got it. AMAZING! Gods gift to women! They also broke my water.
12pm I was still only at a 5 so they gave me pit. I was resting a bit.
4pm I was dilated to 8 cm and we called family to let them know things were getting closer. Our families all headed to the hospital.
4:15 I called my nurse to say the epi was NOT working. She said she would up the dose.
4:30 I said its still not really cutting it. She uped it again.
4:45 I said NO! Its NOT working! She checked me and I was at a 10 and could start pushing! She also told me I would continue to feel as much as I was and there was nothing she could do. I felt pain in my rear and so much pressure.
5pm I started to push, they had a mirror for me, I was reluctant, but when the nurse spread my lady bits apart and I could see her little head it there I very much enjoyed looking! I even remember saying, God I’m glad I shave earlier this week LOL how vain of me!
5:20 the doctor came in and the mirror was gone, so I didn’t see anything after that. I wish I would have. BF held my head forward and counted for me every push. He watched everything, and he is super funny about blood and guts so I was surprised! He kept telling me how great I was doing and how he could see her. He was so great!
5:50pm I felt the ring of fire and I could tell her head was right there….oh it burned! I was vocal during the last few pushes. I remember asking if I was gonna tear and the doctor said “I don’t think you will!” Another vain moment. *palm to forhead* Her head came out and they all said one more push and you will have a baby!
At 5:58 pm after 16 hours of labor and 1 hour of pushing Addison Kay was born screaming! They laid her on my chest and I sobbed, BF kissed me and sobbed! It was the most amazing experience of my entire life. They delivered the placenta, which I barely noticed until it was coming out and I remember grunting and the doctor saying I would feel much better soon. I sent BF out to the waiting area to show off our pictures and tell everyone the news. I was later told he walked out teary eyed but after looking at his mom he was crying so hard he could barely speak. Awww BF J such a proud daddy
7:15pm we allowed family to start visiting. But by 8:30 they said she wasn’t regulating her temp so they needed to warm her. While the nursery had her, our guests left, and we moved to post partum. We got her back around 11pm that night all warmed up.
I had no tearing and no hemorrhoids. I honestly felt pretty good. My back was the sorest from the epi. My recovery has been great and now I feel pretty much back to normal. We had major breastfeeding issues and she was jaundice…it’s all cleared up now and we are exclusively formula feeding now. Life is perfect!
Addison Kay born August 17th 5:58pm 7lbs
3 oz 19 inches long. Absolute perfection. And here’s my proof! I might be a little too proud ![]()
