baby's growth

after my prenatal appt today my ob referred me to get an ultrasound because she thinks baby is measuring two or three weeks too big.. i have a small frame & my pelvic pain has been so severe that I have to pop it several times to get the placing right in order to walk after laying down. I had really no hips AT ALL before I got pregnant.. she felt the babies head/ shoulder area & felt his butt & said it already feels like he can't descend into my pelvis & it's causing me to separate more than most.. has anyone experienced this, does this mean I'll end up needing a c section? & sooner than my due date? on a side note I just barely failed my one hour gd test but have not taken the 3 hr. I'm 36 weeks & am just now getting referred to a diabetic counselor just bc I asked to just act like I did fail the 3 hr because I can't handle fasting for 10 hours. is it bad that it wasn't dealt with earlier?

Re: baby's growth

  • All great questions to ask your doctor. I have no experience with any of it.

  • My baby is measuring 2 weeks ahead currently (May or May not be bc of my GD) but the dr seemed a little concerned and said that I will have a growth US in less than 2 weeks to see how big baby is. From there they will decide if I need an induction as early as 37 weeks.

  • I'm also measuring 2 weeks ahead and have a growth scan next week. My doctor did mention that if she is close to 9 lbs or over that she's going to push me towards a c-section because she wasn't comfortable with me pushing that out. I've had my SIL, she's Chinese if that helps explain that she is really really petite, my nephew was too large to turn but that was the only reason for her c-section. The second time they told her the baby would be too big and she was measuring ahead, blah blah blah, she came out only 8 lbs. My best friend had to have a c-section because her kids are in the 98th percentile on head size and they wouldn't come out the birth canal. I also remember at my first appointment the doctor felt my pelvis to make sure there was enough room for a baby. That's the gist of my experiences so far. I would ask your doctor if that's a concern that they have.

  • I would question this because it's pretty rare to have a baby that won't fit through your pelvis even if you are a smaller frame.  That being said, you need to work through this with your doctor.  Good luck with everything.
