MS, Fatigue and Work

edited September 2014 in March 2015 Moms
I feel like a big wuss, but I'm so damn nauseated that I can't stand to be at work. I just want to lay down.

Anyone else having / have had difficulties getting through a work day? Any tips or tricks are appreciated.

Re: MS, Fatigue and Work

  • I have been having a lot of problems I never want to wake up I have been late a few times my mind isn't on work and I always want to nap... No words of wisdom just try and muscle throw it

  • It makes me seriously wonder how women through the ages (in general) manage to be pregnant (especially during 1st TRI) and work. I've only recently started experiencing MS (today being my first day at work while like this) and its SO HARD to concentrate or just function fairly normal. We have a vacant office around here where I ducked in this morning for a few minutes of rest/dry heaving and I'm going to try and take a nap at lunch. And just watch the clock until I can get home, get in PJs and vegg the rest of the night!

  • Hang in there ladies! It sucks I know....I have been eating "snacks" during the day and oj has been my best friend.
  • I struggle through my day, but I am usually able to keep it together long enough to make it through.  MS is absolutely no fun!

  • I had a really hard time during the first few weeks. I called in sick a couple of times and would sometimes have to come in late. My prescription of Diclegis has made the ms more manageable. I am still sometimes late for work and often am very sick throughout the day. I've been trying to schedule more time in my office vs external meetings to try to hide how sick I am. I don't really have any advice, just sympathy for you. Know you are not the only one struggling with this and hopefully we all get through it soon.
  • My MS has not been too bad, but I was really fatigued and struggling at work for most of July and August. I definitely turned the corner last week though and am feeling much more like my usual self. I've been able to catch up on some of the stuff I fell way behind on. I hope you have the same experience soon! There is hope!
  • My boss is super understanding thanks to him being a 3-time father (in rather rapid succession). But I just feel terrible for not pulling my weight. The vomiting has subsided thanks to B6. Now if I can just reign in the nausea and fatigue. Fingers crossed we're headed in the right direction!

  • 9-10 hours of sleep at night, healthy snacks, saving my one caffeinated drink for about 12:30 (I am a teacher and off at 3 so you may need to adjust that), trash can right outside the door, and always know the teacher aides schedules so I know where to call if I need someone to watch my class). I had to tell my class I was pregnant because they thought I was dying or had cancer.
  • I've had 8 rough weeks. I am greatful that I work for the school and have a shorter and more laid back day over the summer, so on the days I felt crappy I could kinda chill out. I am back to school full time as of today and I can't even imagine dealing with all of that now! I would probably call in more

  • July and early August were bearable. Then last two weeks I had to call in sick or worked from home. Boss is understanding, but business is business. There are still deadlines to me and projects to complete. I hate all day sickness + work. Hate it!!!!
  • It got so bad today, I actually went into my friend's office and took a nap on her couch. I don't have one in mine. All was good until someone came in and totally caught me. Didn't get in trouble. Just embarrassing. Hehe. :-SS

  • I've been really struggling too. I was able to keep it together for the first few weeks because I knew the second trimester was close. Now that I'm into the 13th week and still feeling awful, I'm just running out of energy to fake it. I'm tired, damnit. Tired and nauseous. Always. And I know other people have it even worse than me. I don't know how others do it.
  • All of you working moms-to-be amaze me. I have been off work since I hit 6 weeks (I'm now 13). I just absolutely ceased to function. The physical and emotional/psychological symptoms I've been having just formed a perfect storm and there was no two ways about it. When I read stories about commutes to work with a plastic bag in your lap to puke into and long days on your feet the whole time, I'm in total awe. All I have to say is, you go girls!

  • Don't feel like a wuss. You're body is constantly in overdrive, it's exhausting. My first pregnancy was way worse than this one but I found that being really well hydrated and having my "nausea snacks" like saltine crackers readily available always helped.

  • Snacking helps me.  In the afternoon around 2 is when I start to feel normal again. In the morning I eat cereal before I go to work. Then I have saltines, pretzels, NuGo bars, fruit, or yogurt all before my actual lunch. It definitely helps. I also have a bag of jolly ranchers that helps me not think about the nausea.

  • What helped: sweet sugary treats- muffins, regular coke (small sips), coke slushies (they make at burger king).  It's a terrible diet, but better than eating nothing.  I am a broken record, but I lost 15 lbs before I started feeling better.  Hang in there, slow down, take longer showers, and take baby steps.

  • Ok so I used to feel like this EVERY day that I went to work. Working as a vet tech is very strenuous and busy so I have had to find some way to boost my energy levels, I did this by drinking a fruit smoothy in the morning and as a plus it helps you poop lol you use one banana, Blueberries, razzberries, strawberries, and black berries in a blender with a few pieces of ice and some sunny d blend it all up until it is smooth and drink a few cups of it. It wakes you up gives you energy and helps you feel better during hard work days ;)
