  I think it depends in the weight of the baby..and I think they make a newborn insert but not everybody is fond of it

  Newborn insert required until 12 lbs and infant can hold head up.

  The insert works great. I found it tricky in the beginning but there are some excellent videos on youtube on how to use it for newborns.
