Baby walkers

Does anyone use the baby walkers where LO can go all over?

I am thinking about getting one.I am curious, if its worth the money? Does LO like it? I know LO needs to be closely watched... It looks like fun!!

Thoughts, oppinions?

Re: Baby walkers

  • My pedi is anti walker but I've never asked why. I have one but keep it on carpet where it can't move. I figure it's more like an exersaucer that way.

  • Mason has one and absolutely loves it. He flies around the living room/kitchen area. The dogs, on the other hand, are hating life now...
  • My first one loved it and walked very early around 10 months. My second hated it and walked around 12 months. My third seems to enjoy it but isn't quite moving around too much yet.

  • I have one and am just careful to observe and only keep him in it for 15-30 minutes or so... He loves it, and has fun running into things (chairs, the wall), backing up, and going a different direction.
  • DD would use one at my mom's house and DS will do the same thing. We won't buy one because we have carpet.
  • I might buy one if we had room for him to move around in it but our house is pretty tiny and full.

  • My pedi is also anti-walkers and I didn't ask why. Figured one less thing to buy. She still loves her jumparoo!

  • We have one at my mom's house where he is while I'm at work. He loves it and chasing the dogs, he will get up to a run for his baby legs lol.
  • My pedi is also anti-walkers because they can tip over easily and because it gives them a false sense of being able to walk. At least that is what I remember. We just did the jumperoo and she loves it.
  • We have one and E absolutely loves it!! We "hide" toys around the living room where she can reach them and she goes around and finds them. She also follows me all over the house in it. We have a jumperoo and she loved that up until we introduced the walker!

  • Pretty sure they were banned in Canada so I couldn't get one if I wanted one.
  • Dd loves hers! I researched the concerns before introducing it and found the primary issue was safety/proper supervision. We walker-proofed where she can go and so far it's been fine.
Developmentally it is important to make sure their feet fully reach the floor (can stand flat footed), and that they don't use it for great lengths of time. I guess it can slow learning to walk, I'm kinda okay with that though...
With DD's reflux it has been a great way to keep her upright and not shaking up her tummy after eating. She got tired of the excersaucer real fast, and no longer sits still! :)

  • We got one from a friend, but haven't brought it out of storage. I will use it after we move to my parent's farm house in a few weeks as there will be tons more room for her to move around in. Our house right now just simply doesn't have enough room and my husband has a terrible tendency to leave the basement door open.
  • We just got DS one and he likes it! He still goes backwards but I figured that was normal. I think it's worth the money.

  • Sorry I totally posted last night and ran... I forgot I made this and only glanced at a few posts today because I was at the zoo. I thought they were just banned due to lack of supervision and I am sure there were lawsuits. I put dd in her jumperoo, but she does not jump in it.

  • Our pediatrician also told us not to get a walker. We really don't have the space for her to move around much so I wasn't really considering getting one anyway. DD does have a jumperoo but does not bounce in it. She likes if I help her jump in it but won't do it on her own. Also, at this point she won't stay in it for more than a couple minutes, she just wants to be on the floor crawling around. I'm putting the jumperoo in the "yet another $100 item we really didn't need" category. Some people swear by them and insist it's the only way they get anything done though.
  • Pretty sure they were banned in Canada so I couldn't get one if I wanted one.
Yup, they are.  The closest we get to walkers is a jumperoo or the toys they can push around.  DD1 has something like this one, but it's a puppy she can sit on and ride on.

She plays with it more now then when we got it for her.  DD2 sits in front of it a lot to push the buttons too.  Well worth The $70 for us.

  • We have a jumperroo and walker for Aiden (7 months).  He loves both.  He only likes both for a short period of time.  The walker allows him to have a bit more interaction with us.  We bought his walker at a childrens consignment store for $20.  You can often find them on Craigslist or other online yardsales (facebook) for the same amount or less.  The stores want too much for them.
  • I like the walker because we have three small dogs and it keeps Mason out of their faces and (even though I clean the downstairs floors daily) his hands aren't touching the floor where puppy feet are running about. I'll clean the floor and put them up so he can crawl but most of the time that's hard to do with him/them.
  • Khaleesi loves her bouncer, she's been using it since she was 2 months old. She likes her walker when we are in the kitchen/ dining room since we have tiled floors there she's been moving herself around in that since 5 months. We bought ours at a secondhand store.
