NCDR: water filters

Sorry for another ncdr question in the same day.  Our tap water is very chlorine-y tasting.  Up until now we have been using Brita pitchers for everything- drinking water, cooking, tea/coffee, Soda Stream, etc.  The pitchers are a pain b/c I don't like having to fill the pitchers all.the.time.  And the water will taste great at first but quickly (before they recommend changing the filter) the water is back to tasting bad.  So I was wondering if there are any other ways to get better tasting water.  Someone suggested reverse osmosis but I also heard that wastes a lot of water.  Thoughts?  And what about the filters that you can install right into the pipes under the sink?  Are those better?  Please help if you can.  TIA!

Re: NCDR: water filters

  • A science teacher once explained how "reverse osmosis" is not even a thing. But I don't know

We use a 3 gallon pür jug. It's the kind with a spout. We drink water like crazy and still fill it up often-at least once a day. It is annoying, but necessary

I say if the water is tasting bad quickly...that means there's a lot of stuff in your water and the filter is filling up with junk faster :-/

  • Charcoal/carbon filters go under the sink and work very well. And are super duper cheap compared to reverse osmosis systems.

  • We have well water so our filters are in the basement and cover all our taps, but we installed several that are similar to what you'd have under the sink (just bigger) and they are awesome.

We used to have a brita filter that attached to the tap in our old rental house - way too expensive and didn't work very long.
