Some of you may recall my 4 year old dog had a tumor which we were told was low grade, but that she might lose her leg due to its location. We struggled with the high cost of surgery, but went forward. We just couldn't sentence a young dog to death if surgery would give her a long life. Pathology after the amputation showed she actually had a very aggressive cancer and her time would be very limited.
Sadly, she lost her battle this weekend. We were traveling and had taken her to stay with the in-laws, so we didn't get to give her last cuddles. Thankfully though she had a great couple days playing with their dog and laying in the sun, and went in her sleep curled up on my MIL's feet.
My grandmother's brother died while we were visiting and we were really busy, so I just kept my feelings about losing her on the back burner, but we got home this evening and it's starting to set in. Of course all of her stuff is as we left it, so it's almost like we just haven't picked her up yet. I have expect to see her pop around the corner any moment.
Why can't our pets stay with us forever?
