Trying not to panic UPDATE (not so good)

We had out A/S this afternoon and are very excited to find out we're having a girl. We were also told there was a spot on our daughters heart. My OB told me not to panic, it could be nothing. It could also be an indicator of a chromosomal abnormality. She said that if there were a chromosomal issue something else would most likely have shown up on the scan and that's not the case. She ordered the mat21 so we will know in a couple weeks for sure. I'm just trying not worry, but it's really hard

Update: got the call this morning that I need to see the doctor to discuss my test results and that I will be referred to a high risk specialist. I'm waiting to see if they will call me back today. I'm really sad right now. I would never consider terminating my daughter, but I'm sad that my hopes and dreams for her may never come true.

  • Lots of thoughts and prayers.

Try not to panic; hopefully it's just a fluke of the equipment

My baby had the same thing (if you are referring to the echogenic focus on the heart). From what I understand, since the technology of ultrasounds are increasing they are seeing these spots a lot more than they have in the past. The focus on the heart is a lot more common now. I was definitely worried at first too, but after talking to my doctor I felt a ton better because he wasn't concerned at all.

Edit: I also wanted to add my doctor told me that if the echogenic focus was the only soft marker they found that the chance of a chromosomal issue only increases by 1.1%. Hope this helps ease your worries!
  • I'm really sorry to hear you going through this (even if it's nothing). Try not to stress too much. I'm praying for you and your daughter! Keep us posted!
  • So sorry, I bet that's nerve wracking. Crossing fingers for good results!

    And congrats on the girl!

  • Fx for you. Hopefully it was just a shadow and turns out to be nothing. Sit tight mama and try although it's hard not to stress too much. Hope you get speedy results.

  • First of all, congratulations on your baby girl!
Like the PPs, I sincerely hope that the spots are just wonky equipment, and she turns out perfectly healthy. If they really are something to be concerned about, be grateful that they've found them this early. Good luck! :)
  • Odds are greatly in your favor. Hope the wait passes quickly. :::Hugs:::
  • Good luck sending good vibes it is nothing! If only indicator the risk is only 1% higher for chromosome problems! Hope that helps!

  • In reference to the update. I had the Mat21 test. I've read mixed reviews on if it gives a scale or a positive/negative. What did you get?

  • Hopefully they are just referring you to be on the safe side.  We had friends go through something similar with their last pregnancy and their little boy was fine.  As others have said, with better imaging technology things are being caught early that will fix themselves as the pregnancy goese on.

    FX for you! Many hugs!

That test is high risk / low risk. I believe the only yes/no tests are the CVS and amnio.

OP, T&Ps are with you. Hoping it was just the wording she used, as some practices won't give results over the phone. Our results for the Harmony came back in out favor but we still had to meet with MFM.

  • Hoping everything turns out ok! Thoughts and prayers!
  • Thinking of you!

  • @kayham12‌...I am so sorry you are going through this. I don't know much about Turners Syndrome, but I would do my research to be prepared, but still hope for the best. Doctors are not always 100% correct, and your little girl may still turn out to be fine.

I hope everything is fine. Check out this thread for some reassurance that positive outcomes are possible. (Poster's baby diagnosed through amnio with mosaic turners, debated termination, and baby ended up being fine.) if it is mosaic turners, there are also positive comments from women there that have this thenselves and didn't even know it until they underwent genetic testing for pregnancy.

Good luck! Hoping for the best for you and baby.
