Early Labor

This is my second child and I've been in true labor twice throughout this pregnancy. Once at 29 weeks, and again a few days ago at 35 weeks. Both times I was given a shot by the hospital to stop my contractions. I was on bedrest until today, I start back at work in a few hours and I'm so nervous that I'm going to be thrown back into labor again, considing I wasn't even doing much to cause me to go into labor a few days ago. And working on my feet as a waitress for 8 hours, I don't see how it wouldn't. Also if I do, they said they wouldn't be stopping the contractions. I don't know what to do! :(

This may be a dumb question but is there anyway you can avoid work?

Agreed. Did your Dr say only to be onto nearest till day? I went through this same thing before ptl at 30 weeks, then at 34...is was still on bed rest and just getting up to pee when my water broke and I went into labor with DD1. I don't mean that to scare you but I'm wondering why you aren't on rest longer?

    Were you progressing?

Just because they stop labor doesn't mean it is true labor. It can stop or you can have irritability.

I spent 8 hrs in l & D yesterday with contractions 5 mins apart. I finally was sent home which was fine by me. I never did progress but I was having true contractions. They only gave me pain meds to relax my uterus. At 29 weeks I was given terbutaline 3x to stop labor. They sometimes worry because contractions stress your body.
  • I would avoid work too but Im guessing they sent you home/didnt keep you on bedrest because you're almost 36 weeks.

I went into labour at 33 weeks with my first, they stopped it and was put on bedrest until 36. My doctor doesnt stop labour after 36.

  • I agree. Call your doctor - does he/she know what you do for a living? On your feet for 8 hours after PTL doesn't sound like the best idea ever.

As a waitress, can you try to get someone to cover your shift? Take sick leave? I would try if you can to make an alternative arrangement and drink all the water you can while keeping your feet up. Good luck!
