Going to 1 nap

How do you do it? When did you know LO was ready?

Re: Going to 1 nap

  • UGH. My babies still take 3 shitty 30 minute naps per day. Sometimes I'll get a decent hour long nap in the morning, but the afternoons are a disaster. If they would just take a decent second nap, they probably wouldn't need a third in the late afternoon but I can not get them to go longer than 30 minutes for their second nap :(

  • I feel like A still needs one in the late morning and one in the afternoon. Otherwise she is VERY crabby at night.
  • We will be staying at two for a while. LO shows no signs of only needing one nap yet. I plan on staying at two naps until LO decides he doesn't need it.

  • Usually they need 2 naps until 15 months or so. DS has been fighting his morning nap some, but I read that this is normal for this age and that sometimes babies who drop a nap now will go back to 2 naps once they start walking. Just food for thought. Also, DS only napped for 1 1/2 hrs combined for his two naps yesterday and he was a disaster by bedtime (as stated by @ballygirl‌ ) so he definitely need about an hour in the morning and at least 1 1/2 hrs in the afternoon.

  • A has been taking a longer nap in the afternoon (finally!), but she still needs her late afternoon nap. She gets so grumpy if it's late or missed.

This is us too, but she goes to daycare and refuses to take a morning nap. She's one of the youngest in her infant 2 class so the other babies are all down to just one afternoon nap. She has been taking a pretty long nap in the afternoon (like 12:30-2:30ish) but she's still a little bear starting at 7:00 or so.

  • We tried the 1 nap thing but he still needs a second nap most days. He usually takes a fairly early nap in the mornings so by 2-3 in the afternoon he needs another one but I won't let him sleep past 4:30 because otherwise he wakes up in the middle of the night wanting to play.
  • Kenzie goes back and forth between needing 1 or two naps. If she doesn't take a morning nap, then I just have her afternoon nap start at like noon. We had transitioned to one nap for like 2 weeks, but now she is back again to two.
This is us, too. He goes back and forth.

  • DD doesn't go down until 9:30.  We have tried moving it up, but it doesn't work.  Sometimes, she'll go down at 8:30, but that doesn't happen regularly.

But what time does she get up in the morning? If finnybooboo's kid is going to daycare, she's probably up pretty early in the am.

Yeah, mine is up by 6-6:30 ish. So it kind of evens out. I'm amazed your DD can sleep that late and you can still get her to daycare and yourself to work! I shudder to think how early I'd have to get up to drop mine off and then drive half an hour to work and still be here by 8:30.

I'm very lucky.  My commute to work is about 4 minutes.  DD's daycare is 3 minutes away from our house, so I can make it to daycare and then to work pretty quickly.

  • At home DS takes two hour naps, but at daycare he will not go down for a morning nap so he takes a 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon. He has just had the one nap at daycare since about 6 months.

  • Dd only takes one good nap a day. She has for months. She will occasionally nap in the car in the morning but never more than a catnap. Then she'll take a 2 1/2 hour nap at 1. And be good to go until bed. I just go by her mood, but she's pretty much governed by big brothers schedule- preschool, camp, soccer, etc.

  • Still two naps here... usually wakes up around 7:30 and is down for a nap around 10:30 and then another around 2.  They are usually 1hr to 1hr - 1/2 in length.

Her night time sleep still sucks! She always wakes up atleast twice.  My child will never sttn

  • Dd was taking two naps, but at DC lately she's been having an issue with the late nap. Doesn't want to go down, and doesn't sleep long. Since we were at home pretty much all weekend we had a very normal schedule. DD screamed and fought every nap. Like 45-1 hour to get her to go down each time. And twice she just never actually went down for the afternoon. I asked DC about it this morning and they are going to try a longer midday nap this week and see how it goes..,

    Thanks for everyone's input!
  • Some days she fights the morning nap, like today she napped from noon to 1ish (up at 8:30).  She won't make it to bedtime though and will probably need a quick nap.

  • I agree with @deedee1017‌ about following cues. He lets me know when he needs a nap. He definitely needs 2 a day still.

  • Beau would probably still take a morning nap but he's also happy enough just taking a super long afternoon nap. This way we can get out of the house in the mornings and get things done, go to the zoo, etc. Both kids take an afternoon nap and after naps we usually stick around the house because dinner is at 5:30. When Beau takes two naps I'm pretty much home all day and go stir crazy. I realized he was okay giving up that morning nap when he wouldn't fall asleep on our walks or in the car anymore and then be fine until around 12:30/1:00.

  • Christian is starting to transition himself to 1 nap a day about 3.5 hrs after he wakes up in the morning for about an hr. Sometimes he will take a late afternoon nap. I just follow his cues.

  • DD does ok having one nap if we are off our regular routine.  For example- if she's hanging with older toddlers/kids or we're at a family event or have people over- she does great staying awake and having fun and will usually crash after.  Otherwise for our regular day to day stuff she's still doing two naps a day.  I marvel at the flexibility of DD sometimes :-)

This exactly. I was in denial two weeks ago because DS was only taking one nap. But then all of he's back to two. I'll take it!
