How long do your baby's growth spurts last?

Hi ladies, I think my baby's working on his 6 week growth spurt, and it's killing me.  Since Sunday he's wanted to eat every 1-1.5 hours during the day and taken very limited naps.  He's waking earlier in the night than he had before to eat, as well.  We're on Day 4 of this and I'm exhausted and bedraggled.  DH tells me to sleep when the baby sleeps (if I had telekinesis, I swear there'd be blood spilled whenever someone tells me that), but baby's longest stretch is right after his morning feed when I need to pump.

So the rest of the day it's a buffet for baby every hour to hour and a half, with catnaps and lots of crying on his part and my part because I'm so exhausted.  So give me hope that the end is in sight, how long did your baby's growth spurt last before things got a little more normal again?

I was hoping to try to get him more solidly on the EASY routine this week, since I'd been very laissez faire about a routine, but now I have no idea when I can try that again.

  • Oh, they don't stop growing until they're about 18. LOL as much as I want for that to be sarcasm, I'm dead serious. It may seem like the growth spurts have stopped for a bit, but then all of a sudden, you find your child has a closet full of fresh unworn outfits and can no longer fit them. The good news though is that at some point along the lines, they'll be able to actually say "hey mom. My clothes don't fit anymore."

I'm seriously thinking about pre-buying young adult clothing for them so that 14 years from now, this is not a problem.

    Ok, now that's a joke lol ;)

  • I guess every kid is different because DD was only cluster feeding for one day. BUT, she almost never poops because whatever she does eat gets metabolized for her growth.

She's going on 7 days without a bm, but the doctor isn't concerned, and she's only eating every 2-3 hours and only wakes once per night.

  • I'm pretty sure we had one yesterday.. Check out the breastfeeding thread where I freaked out that I thought my supply dropped and he had thrush.;) Last time he was a beast like this was around 10 days. Luckily, his seem to only last a day, but so far its always on a day that DH is doing something after work, so I have to deal with it all day.

There growth spurts are no joke! I think next one he reaches iI'll have to remind myself that he does not have some strange jungle illness and that it's normal. All that crying really gets to you though! Hopefully his is over soon!

  • I'm in the same boat as you with the six week growth spurt. Hers usually only last a day or two but since today was DH's first day back at work and therefore my first full day alone with her, it's been tough!

  • Lol well I hope the growth spurts when he's a preteen and teen involve less crying on his part (pretty sure I will shed tears in his teen years if he takes after dad!). This 6 week growth spurt is kicking my butt. His 4 week spurt was just a day or two so that's why I am getting exhausted from this one. Babies are hard, yo.

  • I think my LO had a growth spirt over the weekend. It was her 6 week and she was eating constantly. It only lasted 3 days, although she's been waking every 3 hours to feed at night lately when she usually goes about 5 hours...

I hope you're little one slows down soon so you can get some rest!
