TMI Yeast Infections

I finished up a full round of Monistat 7 (MW approved) a few days ago. It apparently did not work, back with a vengeance!   X(

I have never had a problem with YI before and this is driving me insane. New territory and it suuuucccks.

My next appointment isn't until the 12th - should I call now or wait? Are they likely to just tell me to use more Monistat or can they give me something else?

  • I would call now and tell them what's going on. Maybe they can give you something that will work and give you some relief. Hope it gets cleared up for you soon.

  • I have always been prescribed diflucan. It is an oral pill, it usually only takes one dose, and it is so much better, in my opinion than monistat. However if the infection wasn't tested for yeast, it could be something else, and that may be why it didn't go away.

They didn't test - nurse just told me what to use over the phone. I just called and am now waiting for a call back. Guessing I will have to go in this time.

  • I would call ASAP! I've had 2 already during this pregnancy and the pain gets worse. The antibiotics I've taken usual last 10 days and it takes a little while to kick in. Good luck!
  • I'm going in for an appt. in 45 minutes. Which is great, except for my *ahem* lack of grooming.

Oh well, I'm sure they've seen worse. I hope.

  • @Megane8907‌ definitely don't get antibiotics!!! A yeast infection is fungal, not bacterial, and an imbalance in bacteria is usually the cause of a fungal infection.

I (knock on wood) have not had one during pregnancy but I was a frequent sufferer of them for years. Eat insane amounts of yogurt and cut out all processed sugar. That means PLAIN yogurt. Probiotics in pill form can also be your best friend.

Definitely get checked out. Diflucan works super quick. Good luck :(
  • As someone who used to have like 6 yeast infections a year....I would like to speak out as an expert here.

You are probably having trouble because your body responds to bacteria differently when you are pregant.  That's why gingivitis happens so often.

Just a warning...you can become immune to Diflucan!

I really try to use the over the counter stuff and use Diflucan as a last resort. I don't like throwing antibiotics around.

I used to get sooo many yeast infections! I just had really really low levels of good bacteria. Why? Too many antibiotics!

    How did I fix it?

    1) I eat yogurt every day or every other day.

    2) No soap down there

    3) Lots of water

    4) Cotton undies only

    5) No bubble baths! No soap of any kind in bath water.

    6) Wipe back to front

    7) Dry thouroughly when you wipe

    7) And possibly the most important! I rinse of thouroughly down there twice a day! No no matter what! You may think you are doing this already. Step it up! You may be surprised.

After taking these steps I have been yeast free for 2 years and during my current pregnancy.
  • @ChickenOnSunday that looks painful.

  • I do in fact have a raging yeast infection. Woohoo.

Got a RX for Terazol7 (sp?) - which is just the prescription version of Monistat 7. Here's to hoping this does the trick.

I asked about Diflucan and she said it wasn't recommended during pregnancy. Guess every Dr/MW is different.

She also told me that bad yeast infections during 2nd tri can be an early indicator for gestational diabetes. This is something I've never heard before. I had zero issues with my last pregnancy, so this is a lot of pregnancy activity for me.

  • Eek, I am so sorry. I had one when right after I found out I was pregnant (I was on antibiotics) and it was hell. It didn't come back though, hope yours goes away. My aunt is a nurse and recommended diflucan. Maybe your doctor can subscribe that to you!!
  • @jeanzcarol‌ well that might explain why I keep getting them! My OB prescribed me a one-time pill to take after taking antibiotics for 10 days. The pharmacist told me about taking an over-the-counter probiotic but not my OB! Whaaaat?! Thanks for the tip!!
  • My first pregnancy I had a yeast infection from day 1. My doctor wouldn't prescribe Diflucan in the first tri. He said to use monistat 7 day. A week later it returned. This was a constant pattern and he tested every time I went. Everytime it was in fact yeast. In late 2nd try he prescribed Diflucan but said he wouldn't give it to me more than once because it is not recommended for pregnant women to take it more than once. I tried everything. My hubby and I stopped having sex so we wouldn't pass it back and forth. Took probiotics. Nothing worked. I tested positive for strep B, which we knew I probably would with a yeast infection. I was borderline gestational diabetic. The only thing that made it go away was giving birth. I haven't had one since the moment I gave birth. So unfortunately you might be like I was. I feel your pain, I was miserable! Knock on wood, I haven't had one yet this time...

    @t8keepr03 Ugh. I hope not.

My MW suggested I take some precautions now and alter my diet to cut out as much sugar as I can. Kind of like a modified GD diet, to see if that helps things.
