LATCH bottles or bottles in general for BFing

Does anyone have any experience using the new Latch bottles by Munkin?

I'm EBF at the moment but am returning to work in two weeks. DS has only had a bottle twice and we have the small Avent natural bottles. He doesn't really like them so it makes it difficult to feed him. He is funny about nipples and what you put in his mouth. DS 1 was way less picky and we used Playtex drop in's with him but I don't want to have to keep up with buying the drop in's this time.

If you are BFing your LO, what kind if bottles do you use?

  • I use Tommee Tippee bottles and pacifiers. She took to them both right away and had no problem latching back on the breast.

  • My LO took the avent naturals a few times before she rejected them completely, and if we could get her to take it she dribbled milk everywhere and then had a hard time transitioning back to breast. She takes a mam pacifier all day so we switched to the mam bottles and have since had no problems with nipple confusion or leakage out the mouth.
  • We use the Dr. Browns glass bottles and our LO hasn't had any issues going from bottle to breast to pacifier.

  • I'm trying to get my LO to take a bottle since I'm going back at the end of Sept. She hates Tommee Tippee and Dr Browns. She tolerated NUK so I bought some of those. But last night I tried a Playtex Ventaire and she took it pretty quickly so I'm going to try it a few more times before buying extras. She takes several brands of pacis. I haven't had any issues with her coming back to the breast.

  • DD likes the born free kind...she takes a nuk paci but couldn't stand the nuk bottles.

  • Thanks for posting this. DD won't take a paci. Tried mam and soothie and no luck. Also tried Born Free bottles which she has taken a handful of times but doesn't care for it. And recently won't take at all. Medela and Lansinoh flow made her choke. I am thinking of trying Playtex Ventaire wide neck with slow flow nipple. Gotta keep trying!

  • Just bought a Latch today. LO didn't do well with the dr browns. She choked everytime we tried. Hoping the Latch works!
  • DD was really not picky about bottles, but she's a little piggy so I think that's why! However, DH was the picky one! He didn't like the Tommie Tippee's because it was really difficult for him to get the last oz out of and get DD to not throw a fit. So we tried Dr. Brown's and he likes them wayyyyy better.

DD has had no nipple confusion at all BUT she will not take a bottle from me.

Please post your experience and opinion if you don't mind after using them.

  • We use born free. The first time he threw an absolute fit, but I had Dh try again and since then he's been good. DH likes it better than just using the Medela bottles because he doesn't need to burp as much.
  • I've used the regular Avent bottles with both girls without any problems.  I also used MAM with DD1 and she didn't mind those either.

  • I use the tomes tippee and she does just fine with them. I was interested in the latch also but have not tried them yet
  • I use kika pura bottles and we tried dr browns would only take premie nipple, medela, breast flow, and tommy tippie
  • @lowen83‌ latch worked! LO seems to take a really long time eating, but she took the latch without choking. DH gave the bottle.
On a personal note, I ended up sobbing in our bedroom. I thought I was looking forward to LO taking a bottle until she did. It felt like she didn't need me anymore. How silly! I will probably be one of those moms that cries at every milestone :)
  • We are using the latch bottles and like them. We had been using the Dr. Brown wide neck but I felt like the milk flow was too fast-- it was always dripping out of her mouth and everywhere no matter haw horizontal the bottle/ how slow we tried to feed her. The latch bottle nipple seems to be a much slower flow. The nipple does encourage her to open her mouth wide. If she is being lazy and not really sucking she gets very little milk so I feel it makes her work for it much more than the Dr. Browns. We have not tried any of the other bottles mentioned above for comparison. I do wish they were a little cheaper.

Baby Burrito is coming soon :)

  • We tried the medela slow flow nipples with the bottles but they weren't slow enough. The lactation consultant gave me some of the similac slow flow nipples from the formula sample packs and they are super slow flow and LO loves them.
  • We tried the Medela and she hated those- wouldn't take it. We have Avent with the natural nipples and she seems to like those just fine. She is taking in some air though now that we went up a nipple size :-/ The only other bottle we tried was a lanoish which we got free when we registered at Babies R Us which wasn't terrible.
  • Forget LO having nipple confusion, I think I'm the one who has it! I've tried an Avent, Lansinoh, Tommee Tippee, Nuk, Breastflow and Dr. Browns (and the medela nipple that came with my pump.). I can't figure out which one I like better, but I have to decide before I go back to work so I can buy a full set. I think I like the Dr. Browns the best, but I worry that the nipple may give her issues with wanting to breastfeed when she's getting 3-4 bottles a day from it. I liked the Breastflow second, and then the Tommee Tippee. But, the other three I haven't tried in the last month and now that she doesn't need as super slow of a nipple, I may like them better. So, I'm just going to try them all again for one more rotation and hopefully I can settle on one!

  • So my DD absolutely loves the LATCH bottle! It's the only one that doesn't make her gag. But, the nipple inverted several times while she was drinking. Why would this happen? Is there someway to prevent this?
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • @JuniperGaze‌ I don't have them but I read trying a faster flow nipple can prevent then collapse and I read somewhere else about pressing the blue thing at the bottom of the bottle to pop the nipple back up.

LO gags on pacis and has done it when he has had a bottle so I'm glad to know yours accepts this one ok. I believe I may drive to the nearest Target and buy a box of the LATCH bottles and give them a whirl.

  • That makes sense! She can probably deal with a faster flow if she is sucking so hard. Guess we will head to Target yet again!

  • You could just put an ounce of BM in to see how it goes. I've wasted lots because I just put in whatever I pumped because I was hopeful she'd take it. Oh well!

  • My LO won't take water, we had to use breast milk.

This. My pediatrician suggested an oz of water one day because she was straining to poop, and she wouldn't take it at all. I just pour the milk into a new bottle if I don't like the one I'm working with at the time.
