I had this whole plan where I was going to test some on his skin first, then give him a little dab to taste, etc. Instead, I walked in the kitchen to find H letting the baby lick a giant glob of PB off of a butter knife, saying, "He loves PB!" So...
I have an irrational fear of peanuts because my nephew is deathly allergic to them. It's irrational because he also had many skin issues when he was a newborn and he had a dairy allergy, so he was likely to have some sort of allergen. I just can't bring myself to do it. I will consult my pedi first, and be near the ER when I give them to her. LOL.
I wasn't too concerned about peanut allergies as neither DH or I have any food allergies in our families. I let them try some a couple weeks ago when I was eating some peanut butter toast. I just broke off a little piece and they loved it.

Yeah, my pedi said to put some on her skin, let it sit and wipe it off. Do that for a couple days and see the reaction. If nothing, give her a little taste. I put it on day one and then never again. She didn't have a reaction so I'm thinking of just giving her a little taste. I have no idea. I'm so afraid of the worse case scenario.

I understand 100%. I actually thought about giving her a taste before her last pedi appointment. LOL
I got him some creamy unsalted PB from Trader Joe's (the only ingredient is roasted peanuts) and let him have a lick off the spoon first thing in the AM just in case he had a reaction. He loves the stuff
The first time I just did a little smeared on some toast. No allergies in out families so I wasn't too worried. The other day he was licking PB off a spoon, he loves the stuff!
i wanted to do it slowly/gently with this LO, but i found out his sister (under my moms supervision) gave him PB cheerios...those are usually mine, but gave to dd in a pinch, and my mom assumed they were regular cheerios...ds had never had cheerios at the time yet, either...
with dd, we used to live right down the street from an urgent care (2 mins away, and on the way to everything), and i sat in the back of the car and gave her peanuts, shrimp, eggs, etc and waited 15 minutes before going about our day. #paranoidFTM.
We did it a few months ago. I put a little on my finger and wiped it on her tongue. Then a little more the next day. Then mixed some into her oatmeal and then pb toast sticks. She loves the pb! H has a brother who is very allergic to peanuts but no one else in either family has any allergies.
I'm scared to do it! My cousin is allergic to tree nuts like almonds, coconuts, etc. She is fine with peanuts but it still makes me scared. I will do it on his skin the first few times just to be sure. After that I will probably just put it on toast to let him taste it.
I was scared to do it too, but only because I'm an irrational worrier. Finally I just figured, he's gonna have to try it sometime, so I gave some to him on a spoon. I also chose 3 days where either DH or I would be home with him and did it in the morning in case of possible reaction. He's had it 3 times now, so I think he's good.
I guess I'm gonna have to bite the bullet with eggs now.
We haven't tried PB yet but this weekend I did give them each 2 oz of wcm instead of water at food time.
Griffin sucked it dry and then was banging his cup for more (which he got water) and Rowan had about half and didn't seem to have an opinion either way. I won't be replacing formula of course yet but I was curious as to if they'd drink wcm out of the sippy since they won't typically with the formula.
And now back to our scheduled thread on peanut butter.
Even though recommendations are to introduce earlier, I'm not giving DD any for another year or so. Too scared. I'm deathly allergic to peanuts/walnuts/almonds/cashews etc. and we don't really have any products in the house anyways, but when I give her some we will do the hand test and be near the hospital. #notkidding
I'm terrified of pb but gave her eggs months ago. Idk what's wrong with me! She also has not had strawberries because I am allergic to them. I feel like she's getting deprived if all the pb strawberry goodness!
DD hasn't had any peanut butter yet. I am not allergic to PB, but I have other food allergies, so I am irrationally nervous about everything I feed her.
I did the tiniest bit on some toast one morning. She was fine. Havent done it since though because I keep forgetting to buy creamy peanut butter, no crunchy peanut butter for me. Blech
Haven't done it yet. Daycare gives sun butter so we bought some for home too. But I think I'll try it soon, probably within the next couple of months. Skin test first sounds like a good idea.
