subchorionic hemorrhage anyone..

I've been diagnosed with a subchorionic hemorrhage it's been 3 wks. I've been told it's small by my midwife she seems to be not concerned about it.. The bleeding has stopped just have Brn discharge once in a great while.. It scares me I have had one miscarriage before and I don't want to loose this one.. I am currently 16 wks tomorrow but my next OB appt isn't until 18 wks.. I'm not sure if I'll get an ultrasound done then or later at the 20 wk appt..

Re: subchorionic hemorrhage anyone..

  • I'm so sorry to hear about your new issue. I know it is easy for us pgal brains to worry about even the smallest things, let alone something like this when there are actual changes visible.

I am an RN, and my understanding is that your midwife is right. While this is not common, it is by no means rare. Many many women have been through this and successfully delivered happy healthy babies.

You can do this! Be strong! And lean on those you are closest to for support.

  • Your situation sounds familiar. I am going through the same thing. SCHs are common - docs have said up to 50% of women have them, although some don't experience symptoms. Most go on to deliver healthy babies.

The brown discharge is nothing to worry about - its probably old sch blood being pushed out as your body gets rid of it. SCHs tend to resolve themsevlves and maybe this is your getting resolved

  • I had one with my previous pregnacy. It was nerve racking to know it was there. Mine had cleared after about 4 weeks. They should be monitoring it. Don't hesitate to ask them if you are unsure. Unfortunately, I had to remind my office to follow up.
  • I had my second ultrasound a little over a wk later and the SCH was the same size.. My midwife sounds confident that it'll disappear or be almost healed by my next OB appt in 4 wks.. On a good note I've had absolutely no pain the Brn discharge is very light and almost non existent.. I did get to find out that my baby is a happy very active boy.. Excited but weary..
  • I was diagnosed with one at 13 weeks when I started bleeding and cramping. I bled for about 4 days. I went back in 3 weeks later and it had almost fully healed. My OB said he was no longer worried about it. Try not to worry to much.

  • I had one, it resolved on it's own. If you aren't having any active bleeding, then don't stress yourself over it. If your doctor was really worried then you would be having weekly uktrasounds. They are common and Defintely don't mean miscarriage
  • I appreciate all the comments and positive thoughts.. Helps me keep my thoughts positive.. :)
  • I had a small SCH with Baby A's placenta and bled on and off from 5.5 weeks until 17 weeks or so before it resolved. I was told that even though it's not NORMAL, it is COMMON and that most do resolve on their own.

  • I had subchorionic hemorrhages with my previous pregnancy and with this pregnancy. Last time, it was diagnosed at 10w and resolved by 16w. I only had spotting. This time, it was diagnosed at 12w, I had a lot of blood at 12w, then it stopped but the hemorrhage had gotten bigger via u/s by 16w so I'm very nervous about that. I see the OB again on Friday (almost 18w) but I doubt I'll have an u/s. My next u/s at the MFM is not until the 17th.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  • I currently have a SCH. I have had two significant episodes of bleeding - red with clots, and have had all manner of spotting from red to pink to brown since 11 weeks. The SCH has gotten smaller at our 13 week ultrasound, but the ultrasound itself caused the second bleeding episode - yay. Two doctors and the technician said the fact that the SCH had shrunk was good and that we were still moving in the right direction.

It is SO stressful, but it sounds like things are going well for you! My doctor said it was abnormal, but not unusual and that made me feel a bit better, and I was also told I could spot for 4-6 more weeks, so that helps me not to panic everytime I see more spotting.
