I was taking Up and Up with a DHA supplement. Web I went to my first appt, my MW have me a prescription for a prenatal w DHA. She said the over the counters are perfectly fine and this is just her preference because the prescription pill is regulated by the FDA for ingredients. So far, the script pill isn't bad: no nausea or upset stomach when I take it.
The only pure Natural Prenatals on the market are by Natures Sunshine online and you can become a Wholesaler to buy them for yourself. Natures sunshine.com let me know if you would like to sign up. xoxo
My midwife prescribed the ones with DHA in them already. Cheaper than buying off the shelf. I'm lucky to have great insurance:) but before that I bought Wal mart brand. The DHA pills gave me diarrhea if I didn't take them with food tho.
many of those cheaper brands are made from synthetic supplement sources and are actually doing more harm than good, FDA approval means nothing! I only take garden of life organics prenatal it is sourced from whole foods it's not the cheapest but worth it! And Nordic Naturals prenatal DHA...
Vitafusion gummies. I like them. Note, they do not contain iron. My ob said that was no problem and we'd test my iron periodically to see if I need a supplement.
I take the rainbow light complete prenatal - they have all the iron and calcium needed but you have to take 6 a day. But it's better that taking calcium and iron and b6 and everything else for me because the calcium and iron don't constipate me like some of the other brands. I would say that if you have one you like the stick with it, though - as long as your MD approves!
New Chapter from Whole Foods. They were recommended by a friend and I really like them. I have my first ob appt on Monday and I'm going to see if I should get a folic acid and calcium supplement as well.
New chapter contains 600 of Folate instead of 800 Folic Acid. Folate is a superior whole food version vs a chemically synthesized version. You should be fine if not better
However, New Chapter was purchased by Proctor and Gamble 2 years ago. It's still the same formula; However, that can change depending on how well it continues to do. Just keep an eye out on it.
I have been on the Rainbow Light one a day for 2 years (previous preg and BFing). I like them. I don't have time for that numerous pill stuff. I would never remember. And they don't make me sick. Well I still get nausea but not from them.
I was just prescribed pregvit by my doctor, it has 5mg of folic acid. I'm 10 weeks now so I'm not sure how that much folic acid will help at this point.
