Share your time-saving cleaning/cooking/etc tips!

I recently discovered a great one. DD loves to play in the tub after I'm done washing her. I used to just sit there and watch her play, but she doesn't really interact with me durin that time, so I decided to multitask and clean the bathroom while I keep an eye on her.

Now the sink, toilet, mirror and floor get a wipe down 2-3 times a week. My bathroom is cleaner than ever and I don't feel like I've lost any of my life to that particular chore!

What are your time saving tips and tricks for boring household stuff??

  • I try to multitask too. If she's in her high chair eating lunch, I'll empty/load the dishwasher and wipe down the kitchen. Vacuuming I do any time because she likes to run around it like a game. Same with laundry...she likes to "help". As far as cooking goes, I'm trying to make more make-ahead freezer meals. Those are nice for FI too when I'm not around because he doesn't really know how to cook.

  • *sigh* I wish a robot vacuum was even remotely practical in my house. But the living room and bedrooms are on one level, there's a teeny-tiny step up into the kitchen, a big step down from the kitchen to the dining room, and a small-ish step up from the dining room to the den. I'm pretty sure the architect who designed my house was drunk. Or the more likely explanation that the den and dining room were piecemeal additions. No clue what's up with the kitchen thing though!

Love the audiobook idea though! I've been toying with trying to go to the gym early in the morning a couple days a week, and listening to an audiobook while I work out would be fun. I can finally take advantage of DigitalLibraryNJ! Although recently they are skewing way more toward ebooks than audiobooks, so maybe Project Gutenberg is a better bet.

This is brilliant.  DH usually handles baths and gets cranky that I would rather be catching up on chores instead of sitting in the bathroom with them...maybe I can kill two birds with one stone!

A friend turned me on to freezing leftover pancakes and then popping them in the toaster for breakfast.  I kind of like the frozen-toasted ones better because then they are crispy on the outside but still soft on the inside.  Now when I make pancakes, I just make a double batch and spend a while making them all, then freezing them for later.  We had toasted pancakes this morning!

I watch TV and fold laundry during naps. It motivates me to stay on top of laundry so I have some guilt free TV time. Can I just say 6 people make an absolutely absurd amount of laundry!!
I do this too!  Then I can watch Tv without feeling like a lazy butt.  LOL
