Thanks for all the responses! Seems like most people have abandoned land lines same as us but I can see some reasons to have them. I do like the option of giving it to businesses, using it on forms, etc so they don't have your cell. I never can answer my cell anyway during the day so it's just annoying getting those calls and hitting silence.
The issue of having a backup in an emergency still seems like something to plan for, somehow. We don't have spare cell phones although that's a pretty good solution like PP said. Except in a power outage, I guess.
DH works long overnight hours and travels abroad a lot. I might feel better with a land line because in a real emergency and no cell, if I was alone w/LO, locating a neighbor to call 911 could just take too long. I am all for redundancy if I will sleep better at night... But it is probably overkill.
