What to Dress Baby in

So, the rule for dressing your infant in winter is to dress them in the same amount of layers as you feel comfy in, plus another layer.

What should I be dressing baby in right now? It's 87 and humid out...we have a/c on in the house...but I'm sweating since DH only has it at 75. He's worried about her getting cold...and the hospital had her in a hat, long sleeve tee, and swaddled.

I want to just stick her in a onesie and then swaddle her in an A&A blanket but I'm worried it'll be too little....and I also want to be able to assure DH with 100% confidence that she'll be alright. It is supposed to cool down this week to the high 70's...but again, that's still pretty warm.

Re: What to Dress Baby in

  • I would do a onesie and light blanket or a light cottony outfit and be ok with it. My babies have all been late spring/summer babies before this one and I always did onesies and light blankets. If she's too warm or cool you can feel it on her legs. 75 is a pretty good temp for babies though.

  • If we are inside, lo will almost always be in a onesie (with pants as an option. ) Plus swaddled.

  • Our house is set at 75 and I've got him in a long-sleeved onsie and swaddled in an A&A blanket. This has been his outfit all week. Really the only reason for the long sleeves is because he likes one arm to not be swaddled and it felt pretty cold the day I did a short sleeved onesie.

  • If do a onsie, long or short sleeve and a swaddle blanket and a hat.
  • We've been keeping her in a onesie or kimono shirt plus a sleep sack or swaddling blanket. We keep our house pretty warm (73 or so) but I think that would be plenty regardless. It's sweet that your DH is paranoid. Mine is, too--I think more than I am!
In the hospital, he got super nervous when her hat fell off...which was all the time! He just kept asking me if I had her hat or where it was or why I didn't have it on...lol so cute. Also, day one he was my feeding schedule Nazi. "It's been 3 hours...they said 3 hours." "She looks hungry, you should feed her." "When was her last feeding? Four hours ago?? Why are you feeding her???"
he sounds like me... lol I'm crazy paranoid about all of this stuff!!!!

  • Doctor told us today that baby should have one more layer than us (and I am in Florida and we keep our house at 78) I had him in a onesie, pants and socks. She said to add a hat since that's where they lose a lot of heat.

Since we got home he's been in a hat, onesie, socks and swaddled.

  • I've heard to touch baby's stomach to see if babys too hot or cold. DD was a summer baby and I kept her in a onesie and blanket, and it seemed to be enough.
  • Good question, I was wondering about the same.  My DH keeps our A/C at 68 degrees and Im often sort of chilly when sitting around the house depending on what level we are hangging out at.

I was thinking to myself the other day if my LO will be able to go with just a onesie (short sleeved) and swaddle blanket.  Maybe if I throw a hat in there and maybe make the onesie long sleeved I think Ill be ok.  Id rather him be slightly chilled then warm.

Am I the only one who while wanting her LO to wear hats is scared that wearing a little hat often will make him lose his hair?
