Zofran Moms?

Hey ladies I was just wondering your thoughts and experiences on it and if it has helped you! Thaks ladies!

Re: Zofran Moms?

  • It does help, but sometimes the side effects suck. I get headaches and bad constipation from it. I know a lot of other moms have them too. Sometimes it's worth taking it, sometimes it's not. But, it's always nice to know you have something handy if you feel like puking.

  • Ditto the effectiveness and the constipation. I switched to diclegis at night and zofran in the morning, and now my doc wants to switch me again to reglan. I hope you find something that works for you.

  • I took it my whole first pregnancy and am on it again this time around. It always worked for me with my first pregnancy and I would only have to take it once a day. This time the HG is aaaaawwwwful and sometimes the Zofran does zilch and I end up vomiting it up ten minutes later. So, my doc has me take it right away in the morning and again early afternoon to prevent things worsening. As for the constipation, I would muh rather deal with that then puking all day. But, it hasn't been too bad this time around. Last time I took a stool softner which helped a lot.
  • I've take it pretty regularly starting at week 6 1/2. I didn't want to have to rely on it but I really do. Somedays are better and I won't take it or only take 1 and others I'm watching the clock down to the minute to be able to take another one. It helps with the vomiting for sure, I've havent thrown up in about a week! The nausea is a hit or miss, but if I'm not puking constantly it's a win. I take miralax and have raisin bran every morning along with a very high fiber diet. If I have a headache, I can drink half a cup of coffee and it normally goes away pretty quick. Or a nap works well also.

Honestly it was one of the best decisions I made so far. I work really long days and on clients so I can't be taking breaks when I want to go excuse myself and be sick.

  • It worked great my first pregnancy, but this time it did nothing for me. I would definitely ask for the dissolvable tablets, because swallowing a pill when I am already nauseous made me throw up everytime.
  • Thank you so much ladies. It's my 11th week and last week MS turned from manageable to unbearable. The doc is giving me the dissolve tabs. I haven't been able to hold down my prenatal vitamins or water at all the last two days. I'm hoping this works fingers crossed. Thank you ladies for your time and thoughts :D
  • It did help me some but the constipation that it worsened was almost not worth it! I can say for me it was quite fast acting and when it did provide ample relief I felt amazing.

  • That was me the last two weeks, and I was already on Diclectin. Dr switched me to Zofran. It's been working. There are still times I will still throw up, but the number of times have diminished a lot. I still feel sick but at least I don't have to camp outside the washroom. It's no miracle pill but it will help some.

About the constipation thing, I don't know if I'm constipated or just not eating a lot to make poop. I still have no appetite or just scared of eating because of worrying about throwing it back up and heartburn.

  • Def helping me now. Still nauseated off & on, but has helped.
  • Also no luck with zofran. Didn't even take the edge off. Dr said it's a hit or miss and had me try phenergan. After which, I was still nauseous AND tired. :( I stopped both for the sake of pooping again. Hopefully it goes away on its own soon... I can't take it anymore! Fingers crossed!

  • I used zofran in my first pregnancy . It worked sometimes sometimes not at all . And a little trick to help lessen constipation as a side affect . It's called "hooching " and yes it's as glamorous as it sounds . Lol my ob told me about it . And yes you can google it too. As long as you have the absorbable pills you can stick the pill up your hoo-ha . The pill absorbs into your blood stream and actually faster than under your tongue.
  • My doc prescribed me Ondansetron. It dissolves on your tongue and has worked for me like a small miracle. I've only been on it a day so I don't know about the constipation thing. I do not get drowsy on it and am so glad I have it. Now to go monitor my poo schedule. lol

I could be wrong but I thought ondansetron and Zofran were the same thing.
Ha! You're absolutely right! I didn't realize it until you pointed it out and I asked Dr. Google.

  • Zofran works wonders!!!! Without it, weeks 7-11 would have been unbearable!
  • It has been the only thing that has eased my MS but it also made me severely constipated. I couldn't poop for a week. I will be laying off it for awhile I think....

  • I'd say it works 75% of the time.  I take 4 mg + a packet of metamucil + 1 colace to offset the pooping probs and that seems to help.

  • Zofran has been a miracle drug for me-- I got so nauseous starting at six weeks that I couldn't function and considered taking some time off from work to cope. The zofran helped me function during the day and helped me get through the work day. The constipation is a really nasty side effect, though, and I had to stop taking the zofran at 12 weeks because it was so bad. Good luck to you!
