Too picky?

Okay so lately i have tried really hard to eat everything.. But i cant stand the smell of most meats. I have been carbo loading and eating hamburgers when i eat meat. Lately all i want is veggies and chicken. I have made sure to take vitamins and such. But should i be worried that my nose and my lack of a stomach are a risk to the baby.. Because i never had this problem with baby number one. Actually... I was on bed rest most of my first pregnancy. And i had no choice in what i ate because i wasnt cooking.

Re: Too picky?

  • Take your vitamins, and eat what you can, the baby should get the nutrients that (s)he needs.

  • Veggies, chicken and vitamins sounds like a pretty good nutrient choice to me!  But seriously, just keep eating what you can.  The baby will get nutrients first and as long as the doc says the baby looks good and is growing, you'll be just fine.

Don't stress girl! You're trying to be the best mommy you can be. Taking a prenatal is all you should need to ensure baby is getting what he/she needs. I think being pushed to eat so healthy during pregnancy really has little effect on baby. Even when we're not pregnant, we're pushed to eat and live healthy lifestyles. I, for one, don't eat healthy because I simply hate vegetables and most fruits. What are ya gonna do?

  • I had a major meat aversions - including chicken and fish - with my second pregnancy.  My midwife said it was totally fine as long as I was getting plenty of protein from other sources.

I ate a lot of hummous & pita, chickpea curries, quinoa, etc.  Look up food combining for vegetarians - you need to combine certain foods together to get the complete protein complex that humans need.  But not eating red meat is totally fine, especially if you can eat chicken or fish, or other lean meats.

  • During my first tri, I got almost all of my protein from eggs or quinoa!  It was all I could stomach.

Now my list of protein has grown a bit, but I'm still a little leery of meat.  I can eat chicken or pork if it is cooked into something, but I can't cook a piece of meat and eat it.  ICK!!!

    1. Quinoa
    2. Eggs
    3. Rice and Beans!  With hot sauce.  A fave in this house!
    4. Hummus
    5. Peanut butter sandwich

  • I had MS my whole first pregnancy and could barely eat at all! Eat what sounds good and take your vitamins, baby will get what they need.

  • I've been vegetarian for more than 10 years. I generally ate healthy stuff anyways, but now I pay special attention to getting enough protein and iron. I've added a protein bar and extra spinach to my smoothies. Mostly, I've been trying to eat a variety of stuff when it sounds good. Some days are better than others; some days all I can stomach is watermelon.  I try to look at it as a week of food - not one day or one meal. Try to make the week look colorful from a variety of fruits and veggies, and some different types of protein. I like beans and rice or chick peas, peanut butter, and protein-fortified cereal when I'm not feeling full. No need to combine protein types in a single meal if you are getting all of them over time. My blood work is all fine, and the doctor says I am ok without any meat products in my diet at all.

So, veggies and chicken sound great! Just keep eating what you can and taking those vitamins. Check in with your doc, but I bet you are doing just fine!
