Is this just my hormones...

...am I overreacting?!

So we (and by we I mean me, hubby, MIL, FIL and BIL) are going to Ireland (from the UK) from Wednesday to Sunday - so 4 nights, 5 days.

Whoever booked the flights did it with a budget airline and selected handbaggage only. The handbaggage allowance is basically one (pretty small) rucksack in which I am supposed to be able to fit my laptop (I need to work whilst away), hair dryer (travel sized), straighteners, toiletries, clothing, spare shoes etc - you get the picture.

Unless I borrow Mary Poppins bag it's not happening.

Hubby says - we're all in the same boat - err no we are not - no one else has to bring work stuff as well as hair dryer etc - I am getting pretty worked up about the ridiculous-ness if it all.

Am I overreacting...is this pregnancy hormones...or is this a situation I should be able to manage with?!

  • I am a chronic over-packer so I would freak out too. If your hubby thinks it is no big deal tell him anything that doesn't fit in your bag is going in his. :) good luck!

  • I'd probably be freaking out too... I packed more than that for 5 days at the beach (and that was mostly bathing suits).  I think it is doable as long as you really thinking through.  Could you maybe wear your hair up most days?  I think most hotels have hair dryers in them.  Bring only shoes you need and bring a large "purse".  Where you can put other stuff.  It's doable but frustrating.

  • No large "purse" allowed in the baggage allowance @nauticallife‌
And we're staying in a self catering cottage...so no hair dryer provided either!
  • You didn't specify the budget airline, but there's at least a chance you could call them and see if you can pay for an additional checked back-- this might save everyone some grief and you some stress.

Alternately, I say you make husband pack your blowdryer and shoes (as you don't want to risk anybody else carrying your work laptop).

  • So rude! What idiot only allows for a handbag sized bag for an overseas flight?!?!?!?! HELLLOOOO! I bring a bigger bag than that for a weekend. And you'll probably pick up a souvenier or two as well.

  • Maybe this is the curly-girl in me, but I'd say ditch the hair dryer/straighteners because they take up a lot of space. That and/or call the airline and ask to pay extra so you can check a bag.

One small carry-on and no personal bag/purse/laptop bag is kind of ridiculous for a flight.
  • I agree with everyone who said to call the airline and see if you can pay for another bag. Also, make your DH at least take your hair dryer.
