1bdr bit.

FTM. Getting an apt at the end of sept it is a 1bdr. Baby will be in a bassinet beside our bed for the first couple months. As it is a 1bdr only does anyone have any ideas on how to make this fun for myself preparing it and to make it a baby area in our room? Everyone here seems to be getting ready for baby by doing the nursery and all have beautiful rooms for their LO totally jelous.. I feel like this wont be as fun for me .. had a cry fest last night about feeling like my little apt isnt good enough :( these hormones finally hit me.. bf feels bad because im upset but at the same time I cant wait to have our own place and know hes doing the best he can.

We're most likely sharing our room with baby this time. We have three bedrooms and a loft (unenclosed 4th bedroom), but we're in the master, the girls share the smaller bedroom, the other bedroom (that used to be the nursery for the girls) is now my office since I work from home, and the loft is open to the house and is the playroom. We'll have the baby in our room for the first few months anyway in a PnP bassinette, and then possibly put the crib in my office. The baby will sleep in his own room at night, but spend naps and stuff in the pack n play in our bedroom. We haven't quite figured out the logistics yet. I just don't want to move my office into the playroom if I can help it.

So, we're not planning to do a lot of decorating this time either. It kinda sucks because this baby won't have his own dedicated space like the girls did, but our lives are in a different place now.

If you have the room, then maybe put a rocker/glider in the room (like a corner) and then put some baby stuff around it, like @vmkidder suggested a rug or something to give the spot a dedicated baby space. Or, if you can paint, then maybe paint the bedroom a color you can use as your "family" color.

  • don't worry about it! I'm not doing a nursery for months and months since LO will be in our room for at least a year and we're moving as well.

You can decorate the corner of the bedroom where LO will be with your favorite baby items, you just need to be extra crafty. Look at "tiny house" decorating tips on pinterest or YouTube.

Thanks ladies! I want to make it special with what i got. The rug idea i like and a little table for baby items. No room for a change table and big stuff like that but a crib will fit when needed. I have a rocker ! It will go in the living room as i cant fit much in the room already no room for a dresser. Gonna have to hang clothes in the hallway closet ;p
  • Aw, please don't feel bad about this!  Your baby won't know the difference and the only thing that matters is that he/she is in a safe place with parents that love them!  Besides, lots of people choose to do this even when they have plenty of room for a separate nursery.  DS was in our room for close to a year and this one will be in our room for at least a few months.

I would designate a corner to the baby and set up the bassinet there.  You could hang a piece of artwork over the bassinet or maybe get a small nightstand/shelf to display stuffed animals, baby books, pictures, etc.  Or could even hang some shelves on the wall to display stuff, just make sure they are secure.  I also like the rug idea or putting a glider if you have room to "designate" the area.

  • We used a baker's rack for a changing table in the girls' room (took off the top two shelves) and downstairs a desk. Just slap a changing pad on top of it, and voila! So, definitely look at repurposing existing surfaces with an idea of how you can use them now for baby. You could always curtain off a corner and have it be a special little nook for you and the baby with the glider, separate from the rest of the apartment.

  • Babies need very little, and have no idea if they are sleeping in an adorable, themed nursery or a bassinet in the living room. We live in a 2 bedroom condo with a 13yo in the second bedroom, so believe me, I've had my share of these worries. At the end of the day, you're going to do your best to provide what you can for your little one, and this will be enough.

  • We are also sharing our room with baby. We rent, so aren't able to paint, but we were able to turn about half of our room into a little "nursasection". It's not a full on nursery, but it helped with the nesting, and looks reasonably cute.

My 8 year with never used the nursery once. He only ever slept in that room once he turned 5.

This baby has a nursery, but I don't expect it will get used either. We simply weren't doing anything with the room and would have been fine without it!
my point is just not to feel guilty, because even those of us with nurseries don't always use them.
  • We aren't doing a nursery this go around either. He has a little nook in our room that I have decorated for him.

  • @gradschoolmom1234 had sent me some really cool links. I will forward them on to you!!!
  • Here is his nook. You can find shelves like this unfinished at craft stores. It can help with some light storage and give you a place for some baby decor to define your LO's area.

  • We.currently live in a one bedroom with DD and ababy boy on the way. We are on the waiting list for a 2 bed, but this little guy might be here before one opens up, so we are not having a nursery at all. Our living room is set up like a studio apartment with our bed and a small couch and tv, and DD has the small bedroom since she has a ton of toys and things and we dont have much that needs to be out. We set up the crib in her room and are using it to store all the baby things we have aquired, but plan to have a cradle in the living room with us for sleeping at bight and.will probably do naps in the crib in DDs room so its quiet andaway from the dogs. I'm not even decorating the corner since we may suddenly get into a 2 bd and I will end up having to take everything down.

The baby will be in our room (once we move into the 2 bd) until he is mostly STTN and then he wil go in with DD. Probably a year or so.

  • Sharing my room with the baby until he is old enough (and sleeping quietly through the night) to move in the room with DS. There is a guest room but im keeping them together while they are young. This baby will sleep in my room for the first year just as DS did. Im doing what others have done...decorating a corner. I have not prepared anything yet ;). You will be fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine :).
