intro + SCH question

Hi guys! I'm new...I have a 14-month-old daughter and I recently found out I am expecting di/di twins. I had a twin pregnancy in 2012 that was complicated and didn't end well. I had a SCH during first tri that progressed into a chronic abruption and caused a big bleed at 16 weeks. I was on bed rest for 3 weeks and then I had PPROM at 19 weeks and delivered at 20 weeks. My pregnancy with my daughter was totally healthy and uneventful and I carried her until 37+5.

Based on my history I am obviously really scared about my ability to carry these babes to a gestation when they can be born healthy. Unfortunately, I started spotting at 5 weeks and at 6 weeks, we saw a sizable SCH next to baby A's sac. For the past few days I have had gushes of red blood every day. I was switched from progesterone suppositories to PIO, but I guess now it is just watch and wait. I am also taking baby aspirin, which I am continuing for now.

First of all, I just wanted to say hi :) My last twin pregnancy I didn't introduce myself until the end of first tri because I was so scared of a vanishing twin, but this time around, I figure I could just really use the support. Second, I would love to hear about others' experiences with SCH.

I really hope that this time I will be a member of this group for the long-haul!

  • My SCH was found at 13 weeks when I woke up bleeding. I bled for about 6 more weeks and it varied in color and amount. I delivered at 35.3 weeks though and have two healthy five month olds. Hope that gives you some hope!
  • So sorry about your losses!

I posted this in another thread as well but I also had a SCH.

Bled heavily (bright red) from weeks 13-18 and delivered at 30 weeks. We had 47 days of NICU time for feeders/growers, but everyone came out healthy.

Best of luck! and Congrats :)

  • I had a SCH with both my singleton and the twins. With my first, I didn't have an u/s until 10w and they didn't seem concerned about it and it had resolved by the NT scan about 3 weeks later.

With the twins, I had two big gushes of blood and the hematoma was found around 6 weeks and didn't resolve until 12 weeks. They were unable to tell whether it was near the placenta that early but did warn me that if it were formed under the placenta that it could cause viability issues. At 8 weeks, I was told that they didn't think the SCH was going to cause a problem other than spotting because it was very close to the cervix. I was just told no heavy lifting and if I did pick up something heavy, I would usually spot.

My singleton was an uneventful pregnancy and delivered at 39+1 due to rupture of membranes. I'm 22w with the twins and it has also been uneventful. I don't have any loss experiences so I never really worried that much but I could see how that would be opposite in your case. Just make sure you keep your OB, or if you are with an RE, notified of bleeding/spotting and try and take it easy although that might be easier said than done with a toddler.

  • No experience with SCH, but congrats on your pregnancy & welcome! T&Ps that this twin pregnancy goes 100 times better!!

  • 16w+3d here and SCH since 8 weeks. Bleeding was while on vacation sitting in the pool! Rushed to ER where vaginal ultrasound made it 100x worse to point they had to mop the floor and I thought for sure the babies were gone, but we are happy, healthy and oh so growing atm. I still worry, but the bleeding has slowed to be virtually not there and only first thing in the morning. Brown spotting for last 4 weeks. Dr. Said as babies move away from cervix and higher into the ute as weeks go on, it should stop and that appears to be what's happening.

If you need to talk I totally understand how you feel. Our first pregnancy was a miscarriage so I fear daily we will loose these two!

    10 medicated IUI's (3 with injectables).
IUI #1 (medicated) Jan. 2013-BFP!!!!- Beta's didn't double, MTX shot for possible ectopic.
    8 IUI's between April 13-April 14 = BFN
IUI #10 and final before IVF, injectables May 2014- BFP!!!!  TWINS!!!!

7 week ultrasound showed 2 wonderful heartbeats!
8 weeks to the ER with vaginal bleeding while on vacations!  Diagnosed SubChorionic Hemorrhage.  Babies are both great.
9 week ultrasound showed both babies are still great.
