Re: ~*~Health & Fitness Check-In 9/2~*~

  • 1) How far along are you? 22 weeks

    2) How did you do this past week? If you didn't reach your goals, what will you do to get back on track? I did not do so great. I swam once and I ran 3 times. I did a 5k on Saturday and it was the best run I've had since getting pregnant. My time was way slower than pre-pregnancy (32:55) but I felt so great during and after that I'm not worried about it. I've got a 10k in two weeks and I'm hoping it goes just as well. I missed a couple of runs and a swim this week already because of the holiday. I overdid it this weekend and I'm just exhausted today.

    3) Any goals for this week? Swim 2x's; Run 3-4 times

GTKY: Where do you shop for most of your groceries? And do you meal plan? The only grocery store we have in our town is Kroger. I do not meal plan but I probably should because every night lately DH and I wait each other out to see who is going to cook. When one of us finally gives in and says "what's for dinner?" neither of us ever know what to cook.

    2) How did you do this past week? If you didn't reach your goals, what will you do to get back on track? Pretty good but I didn't lift as much as I wanted to. Finally got a good plan together so I should be on track. Ran 11 miles Saturday which was my last long run of the pregnancy. Gonna start backing down to 8 or less now. Also finished the August 100 miles challenge with 107!

    3) Any goals for this week? Lift every other day. Run 5-6 days

GTKY: Where do you shop for most of your groceries? And do you meal plan? Costco and hell ya we meal plan. I think about food more than I care to admit haha

  • I thought I missed this yesterday. Glad I didn't! Hope you had a great day off @YaMrWhite‌ :)

    1) How far along are you? 21+

    2) How did you do this past week? If you didn't reach your goals, what will you do to get back on track?

I did SO MUCH better this week with regards to food and working out. I got to the gym 5 days and did my 200/100 squats/push ups 6 days. I ran a 5k on Sunday through our zoo and it was a blast. My time was slow (27:50 I think), but there are major hills on the course so I didn't really care. Plus, it felt great!

    3) Any goals for this week?
My goal is to run 20 miles this week. Shouldn't be too difficult. I should be able to run at least 5 days. My pace has dwindled a lot recently and I've noticed my shins hurting more, so I think it's time for new shoes. Darn ;)

    GTKY:
I shop at Kroger and Fresh Thyme. My fruits and veggies come from the farmers market on Mondays

I will meal plan now that H is done traveling. I usually only make 3 meals a week and we eat left overs the other days. Plus, we do family Sunday dinners at my parents or the ILs so one day is always covered.

  • @YarMrWhite Why are you backing off on your long runs? Just curious.
I feel like I'm burning through muscle and I'm not really training for a long race right now. I *think* I would rather put that extra time and energy into more lifting so I can get some of that definition back that I seem to have lost since becoming pregnant. I have a tug of war constantly with myself as far as what I want more because I LOVE distance running but I also enjoy what lifting does for me. Need to find my happy medium.

  • @YarMrWhite I think pregnancy just takes some of the muscle definition away. I've noticed my thighs have gotten a lot less defined and a lot bigger in the last few weeks. It certainly could be my reduced mileage but I feel like my body just wants to put on a layer of fluff. Do whatever you think is best for you! I'd stick to whatever I enjoy the most right now. There's always time to do what you "have" to do after the baby comes. I had all these goals going into pregnancy but everything is so different than what I had imagined that I'm learning to roll with it. It's just a temporary sideline physically, I think whatever you enjoy doing is what you should do.

  • @TXUltraRunner I agree. I think that is why I'm having such an inner struggle! I do enjoy lifting but running is my passion. I wasn't much into lifting during my first pregnancy so I was nervous to do it during this one since I didn't know what to expect and had only started REALLY lifting in January. 4 months didn't make me feel comfortable so I took a break during the first trimester and now I'm struggling to find the time to do both. I guess I also feel weird doing these long runs without a race in the near future. But man they are fun and relaxing! Maybe my new shoes will inspire me :) I ordered the Nike Zoom Pegasus 31's yesterday and they arrive on Thursday. Can't wait!

    2) How did you do this past week? If you didn't reach your goals, what will you do to get back on track? I had a cold/upper respiratory this week, so I only worked out 3 days.  I usually work out 5-6x/wk, so I have been back at it since this weekend.  I either run or do elliptical for 30min each day.  And if I'm not sweating, I'm not working hard enough!!

    3) Any goals for this week?  Keep it up and don't eat chips (I bloat like a beached whale in the middle of summer).

GTKY: Where do you shop for most of your groceries? And do you meal plan?  Kroger mostly.  By meal plan do you mean do I plan meals for the week?  If so, then yes.  While I am at the grocery, I think of what my family and I would like to eat for the week and I buy the groceries I need.  If by meal plan you mean do I freeze meals for once baby gets here?  Then no.  With DS3 I left the hospital 24hrs after I delivered (minimum my doc would release me) and went home, picked up DS1 from school, and cooked dinner while DS3 was strapped in the Moby.  I love to cook and make homemade meals for my boys :)

  • Will be cheering you all on :x

I was put on modified bedrest this morning (a few days shy of 23, lovely) so my activity level will be next to nothing.

Rather than sit here and mope (because I seriously just signed up for fall ballet classes, and could cry any second now) I'm going to be happy/proud that I made it 20 weeks running, swimming and dancing!  Better than nothing, eh?

But I'll be cheering you all on and watching this thread weekly, and living through you all!!  And someone do a run on me???? :D
Damn I am so sorry to hear :( Can you take slow walks? Better safe than sorry of course!

I'm not supposed to walk more than 15 minutes a DAY right now  8-|  My BP was 156/94 at the midwife this morning (after I called her because it spiked even higher than THAT at home).  And when I lay down, it drops like 15-20 numbers... which is HUGE.  She had me down in the office and it went way down.  Then she had me get up and walk a bit around the building and it spiked to almost 160.  Just walking. It went up so fast it made me feel queasy.  So even walking isn't cutting it.  She did adjust my meds to a higher dosage.  And said next week she's going to add a medicine or change my current and see if it changes it. So it's possible that it's temporary bedrest, she can't tell me right now.

I imagine running and dancing is out of the question, regardless, though. It sucks so bad. I'm such an active person... laying in bed is going to drive me freaking insane. But I'm not diggin' numbers in the 160's and almost 100's so my butt is in bed.

Higher levels of hormones definitely effect muscle definition, not to mention the baby needing protein that can be squandered from our own muscles. (I noticed that with DD and it actually continues until she started some solids at 6 months.) My upper body wasn't "defined" before this pregnancy, but it's even worse now!

Jealous! I live 5 minutes from a Crossfit gym but I just can't justify the cost.

Better than the gym membership I haven't cancelled and still pay. :-X

  • I'm glad this thread floated back to the top today. I was out of the office yesterday, so I didn't post.

    1) How far along are you?
    I'm 22w5d today.

    2) How did you do this past week? If you didn't reach your goals, what will you do to get back on track? I didn't reach my goals last week. I'm feeling very disappointed with myself. I don't really have an honest plan on how to try to get myself back on track.

    3) Any goals for this week? My goal for this week is to walk 30 minutes 4 days this week. Same as last week. *sigh*

GTKY: Where do you shop for most of your groceries? And do you meal plan? I do my grocery shopping at King Soopers, which is the Colorado equivalent of Kroger or City Market. I try to meal plan, but my plan always gets thrown off the rails a little. I try to at least take into account what we've got going on each weeknight, and plan our meals accordingly. And I try to plan such that we have leftovers to take for lunches during the week.

  • Can I use this thread to vent just a tad, too?

I'm 22w5d. I just went to see a colleague at work in her cubicle. She'd brought in celebratory cookies for someone's birthday and had sent out an email inviting everyone to come and enjoy one. So, when I saw her, I jokingly said "The baby girl is craving a cookie!" (I have been "out" at work since 14 weeks or so, so I just assumed she knew.)

Her response sort of made me feel bad, and I'm hoping that by venting it out here I can just let go of it.

    She: Oh! Are you pregnant?
    I: Yeah! We're having a little girl, due 1/1/2015.
She: Well, I'd wondered. I'd seen you from behind around the office and I wondered if something was up.
I: (After a moment of feeling horrified that she just insulted the size of my backside) Yeah, I'm getting wider.

    :(

Jeesh. Thanks for the reminder that I'm gross. Now I want to go home and eat all the things.

  • Thanks @saiven. I know I'm just being ridiculous and overly sensitive.

I mean, it's sort of a trap, I suppose. It's definitely wrong for someone to assume a woman is pregnant, even if she looks pregnant. The polite thing to do is to not mention it until she tells you she's pregnant. And then once the pregnant lady does tell you, there's little you can say besides "congratulations" that doesn't border on being offensive/hurtful. Even just a very innocent "I thought I noticed a bump there!" can be interpreted as "See, she said I looked fat!"

I know my friend wasn't trying to be hurtful or malicious. I'm just being overly sensitive. I've been going about feeling very pregnant, and feeling like I look obviously pregnant rather than just "fatter than usual" and I interpreted her comment (maybe because of the way she said "saw you from behind...") as an indication that I just looked fatter than usual. It's on me. I'm all tangled up in the feels.

My running buddy had this commented to her by one of her coworkers and I swear you cannot tell she's pregnant from behind. I think some people just say things to "acknowledge" the pregnancy not really believing it or thinking how it will hurt your feelings. I have yet to see a pregnant person that I could tell was pregnant from behind, whether I knew them or not. I'm sorry :(
