Toddler Hair Care

My daughter has curls.

I'm not very good at managing her hair.  I plan to take her to get her first hair cut this next weekend.  But I think I need some hair product to tame everything.

Does anyone have any recommendations.  I'd prefer something I can pick-up at Target, Babies R Us, or through Amazon.

I was thinking of ordering this:

Re: Toddler Hair Care

  • I don't have a rec for products, but omg have you heard of the wet brush?  If she gets tangles at all, you must get this brush!  I was going to say you can get a 2 pack with a large and a mini, but since you chopped your hair, you probably don't need it.  But I just bought 4 of them.  E can even brush her own hair (sideways and upside down as a toddler does) without getting tangles.

  • M uses banana for her hair product. Makes great spikes.

    :D
    E still uses yogurt sometimes.

One time she actually got it on the back of her head.

And C had sweet potatoes in his eyebrows this weekend.  My husband thought he had one really red one and then looked closer...

Yep, those are the ones. They make a larger size, too, but the minis are good for throwing in the diaper bag. They have been a game changer for us as R has loose curls in her hair as well.

  • Yep, those.  I bought the full size ones and it's fine for just brushing E's hair.  But it's too big when I try to fix her hair.  Not only does E not cry when we try to brush her hair anymore, but she also wants to brush it herself, and brush mine too.  And thank goodness for that brush, because it used to be quite painful when she tried to brush mine.

  • We use the excess lotion on our hands to tame his hair. :)

  • DD has curly hair and I have a spray bottle with water and a squirt of conditioner and a squirt of hair gel in it. I just dampen her hair with it, run a wide toothed comb through it, and then scrunch it with my fingers.
  • I thought ITK was talking up some hair products for curly hair a while back.

  • Wait, what makes the Wet Brush any different from a regular cushion-body hairbrush that has been around forever (or since I've been brushing my hair)?

Sarenu, I've just started using the Shea Moisture products for curly hair in my own hair, and I really like them. They don't make my curls stiff or tacky like regular gel and mouse. I got a kind of starter kit at Target. I don't notice a big difference when I use the shampoo, but the styling products are great.

  • I have no idea @unaveragejane‌. But it is a world of difference. It's magic I guess.

Agreed. One time, all I could find was the regular one, and when I tried to brush R's hair, I almost cringed! I stopped and went back to find the wet brush because it's that much better.

  • We use the Shea Moisture products for kids with curls. You can get them at Target. Some in store & some online. I only wash DD1's hair once a week, so the shampoo & conditioner last forever. We use the detangler spray the rest of the week. (When she lets me comb her hair.) I'll have to check out the water brush, too.
