Trouble TTC

I had such high hopes for this cycle...

And now as I sit in the waiting room for the 2nd in back - to - back IUI 's (Had one yesterday) I'm feeling this is already a bust. DH's post wash yesterday was only 4.4 million. I don't know today's yet but he called me and told me he had to give a second sample. I'm feeling like this is a repeat of our cycles back in February and March and that even though his motility has gone up with the meds, post wash is still similar. I'm afraid this one is going to be cancelled just like how the 2nd one was cancelled last time. Ugh...Sorry I know it's too early in the day to be a Debbie Downer! If this IUI fails I don't know if I can go through a 4th.

Also the doctor is late and I'm going to be later for work then I told them! And all the other women here waiting too are complaining about how late he always is. Ugh. He's lucky he's a nice doctor otherwise!

I'm so sorry! I know the feeling, we had IUI #3 yesterday, we switched from Clomid to injectables(Gonal F) for one last shot and DH post wash was only 2 million. Even my RE told me we need to move on to something else. DH had a SA before we even started our IUI's and they called and told me how "perfect" his sample came back! All 3 IUI's have been super low!!!!! I'm devastated! I wish you the best of luck!

  • Loading the player...
  • Big hugs....FWIW my clinic looks for 3 million and doesn't do B2B, so IUI #1 would have been enough. It sucks, though.

    **EVERYONE WELCOME!! :)**

  • Here the RE says 2 million is the minimum, but all medical studies I read say less then 5 mill has a small shot of working. I think I'm more upset because his SA in July after taking meds for 3 months was awesome. MFI can be soo unpredictable!

And I'm still waiting. Although turns out it's the labs fault not the doctor. He's been here the whole time. Lab still has the samples! Being a lab tech myself I'm a little annoyed but I get it. Accuracy over speed! But still :-S I had to call my lab and tell them I'm going to be even more late! That's at least 2 hours off my paycheck!

Thanks ladies for listening. I love you all!!

On a side note, there's a guy in the waiting room with his wife who also takes the pills my DH is on, said the RE told him to take 2 pills of pseudophedrine, 2 hours before giving the sample since it helps the muscles down there to provide more of a sample?? Never heard of that before. And am wondering why the RE never told us that?
*** If you want to know where I (and soo many others) have gone, click here ***
  • Sorry, I know it's frustrating.  Especially when you're going through all of it and then the numbers come back crappy.  We're dealing with MFI also and for some reason his numbers totally dropped from his first SA in May until my last IUI in August (1.7 mill post wash), your Hs numbers don't seem that bad compared to mine. They didn't recommend B2B for us but I just remember it being one of the worst days.  Treat yourself to something after the IUI today, go get something yummy on your lunch break!!!!!

    TTC #1 Since 07/2010
    DX: Unexplained Infertility
    TX:
    IUI #1 on 7/3/14 100 mg Clomid + Ovidrel + IUI (44 million sperm, 1 dominant follie) = BFN
    IUI #2: on 7/28/14 100 mg Clomid + Ovidrel + IUI (23 million sperm, 2 dominant follies) = BFN

    IUI #3 on 8/22/2014 100 mg Clomid + Ovidrel + IUI (53 million sperm, 2 dominant follies)= BFP MMC @ 7weeks

  • He only had 960,000 post wash today, and that was with 2 samples. They still went ahead with it anyway. We'll see what happens in a couple of weeks. Beta is on the 14th. The RE says he hopes it works, but if this is a bust, he wants to see us again to re-evaluate instead of going ahead with another IUI. In other words, probably move to IVF (unless he thinks we need more testing). My guess is DH's morph isn't leaving much to work with after the wash. My clinic seems to think b2b is the best way to go with MFI to give you as many possible swimmers. Whether this cycle turns out good or bad, this was probably our last IUI.

@sugar4bri I hope 3rd time will be the charm for us too! I'm feeling better about it then I did this morning, don't know why. We'll see what happens!

  • No advice, but just wanted to say I understand the disappointment you feel when going in for IUI only to hear the numbers are worse. It was hard for me, definitely harder on my DH. Just try to keep your chin up and think positive. There's still a chance and it's not over until it's over.

  • I'm sorry Shellie, that's so frustrating! You said the RE likes B2B to get higher total numbers. But I wonder if he might consider trying one at the time of O to help those swimmers hit the egg even if they're slower or malformed (this is self-deprecation here, MH has low motility and morph!!)? Our RE said he wanted to get sperm there right at or just after ovulation.

Hopefully you can experience a wonderful surprise just like @sugar4bri!! There's definitely been pregnancies with 4 million sperm. :)
