I'm curious. DS was taking 4oz of formula every 4 hours, but now is wanting it more like every 3 hours. I'm contemplating bumping up her ounces but I just feel like that's a lot??! So, how much and how often are your babes eating?
My DD is EBF so I can't really ring in about the formula feeding. BUT it sounds like hes going through a growth spurt. Our pedi told us to feed her as often as she asks for it, but I would call your pedi and ask. You could also post this on the formula feeding board
My 5 week old is eating 4oz (2 oz BM and 2 oz F) every 3 hours. That's when she's asking to eat so we feed her. Sometimes it's actually every 2.5 hours. My pedi said to feed her when she's hungry so that's what I do.
My 5 week old eats anywhere from 3.5 to 6 ounces (averages about 4-4.5) about every 3 hours. Bottles are usually 50-75% BM and supplemented with formula.
At our last pedi visit, the doctor filling in for ours suggested that 4oz was too much and we were overfeeding him. It's not like he gulps it down or anything. I'm hoping that by the time I go back to work it's more like 3.5 hours between feedings.
Our 6 week old eats about 4 oz every 3-ish hours. He seemed to want more (5-6 oz every 3-4 hours) about 2 weeks ago but he has slowed down now. He must have been going through a growth spurt.
DD was eating 4oz roughly every 2.5-3 hours at 5 weeks. DS was eating 6oz formula bottles every 3 hours at that point when he was a baby though; the pedi said to feed him what he wants when he wants it. Every baby is different so like other PPs said feed baby when they ask.
Thanks for posting this. I'm wondering the same thing. My LO is almost 7 weeks & taking 4oz every 2-4 hrs. I bumped him up to 4oz about a week ago because he kept wanting more. I thought he'd start going longer between feeds, but I don't think that has really happened yet. He still eats 8-9 times a day. He did drop at least one feeding I guess since I went up in ounces.
We started out having BFing latch and tongue tie issues so we have always had to supplement with either BM or formula. DD will usually nurse for 20 minutes if I'm lucky (she's a lazy eater) and usually will want more 20-30 minutes later and we give her a 2 or 3 oz bottle depending on how well she nursed. I'm trying to figure out how to get her to eat more during the day so she sleeps longer at night. Right now the most she gives us is 3 hours and the last three nights she has been wide awake squirming from 4-6AM. Hoping more oz during day helps that. Sorry for such a long post about sleep!

This. All of it. Girl has been wide awake fussing the last few nights and eating every 3 if not 2 1/2....
Let's hope this is a growth spurt and we will all be better, soon!
Thanks for all the replies, I don't feel so alone.
Averages 4 oz every 2-3 hours during the day, but we get 3-5 hour stretches at night. Somedays he drinks less at a time (maybe only 2 oz), but then will want to eat more often. Other times we'll have to give an ounce or 2 more after the initial 4 oz. But 4 oz is pretty typical. He's almost 6 weeks. I feel like he eats a lot (sometimes he wants to eat again and it hasn't even been 2 hours yet!), but he was 9 lbs 11 oz at birth and is about 13 lbs now.
