Amazon vs. BRU Registrty..?

So, everything I've found on BRU that I like, and have added to that registry, is only available online and I discovered this upon taking my mum to BRU to check the stuff out last week. Imagine my shock and disappointment! Since then I've found the same exact items on Amazon, where they don't seem to get discontinued and are much cheaper, and I've actually made a registry on there that I'm MUCH more satisfied with. Only down-side is the lack of a Buyer Protection Plan, which I became an even bigger fan of when I was a furniture consultant for BRU and realized how important it really was to me when DS' original swing had to be replaced shortly after we got it. So in that, you see the pickle I've found myself in lol

Is it unreasonable to get rid of my BRU registry and just stick with my Amazon one since the stuff I've registered for has to be shipped anyway? All but an Aunt and Uncle in DH's family live in MI as it is and they've all said they're planning on having something shipped to us or sending a gift card anyway, which we're more than happy with since it's incredibly generous of them to do anything and we love gift cards anyway. My FIL actually gets me an Amazon gift card for my birthday, Christmas, etc. since he knows I LOVE Amazon!

Re: Amazon vs. BRU Registrty..?

  • I'm registering at BRU & Amazon just because we have some family members that don't online shop. I think if you're family/friends all participate in online purchases than why not just use Amazon? I think so many people are prime members these days that it makes it even easier for sending gifts and free shipping unless your my old school family. Happy registering!

  • I'm registered at BRU and amazon. I think its perfectly fine to have more than one

  • I am strongly considering doing a BBB and an Amazon registry.  Most of my close friends and family live across the country from us and will have to ship anything they decide to give us so why not do Amazon I agree.

I am still going to do a BBB since I do have some friends nearby and for the completion discount.
Love is like infinity: You can't have more or less infinity, and you can't compare two things to see if they're "equally infinite." Infinity just is, and that's the way I think love is, too.

I think it is best to have a brick and mortar store registry. Not everyone shops online.

Also, you can't dictate what people comment on or how they respond.
  • I say keep both. Some people just look at the registry to see what you need and buy a version they prefer anyway so there's no way to ensure that you're getting exactly what you want. I do want to point out that if you just remove the whole bit about second showers no one will know. You didn't mention it until the last paragraph and without that tidbit of info no one has the power to get negative about second showers.

  • I did both an Amazon and BRU registry but finally consolidated everything on MyRegistry.com so it was all in a central location and gave everyone that link. I also added cloth diapers that weren't on Amazon or BRU, so that made it much easier to use MyRegistry. I agree with PPs, though, that if you have relatives/friends who don't shop online, it might be best to include a physical store registry.

  • I think in your situation it is perfectly acceptable to ditch the brick and mortar registry for amazon. Or combine them all on the MyRegistry like @ckimberley14 suggested. My cousin just had a baby and she had registered at three websites and the items were all double or triple registered for and it took me FOREVER to compare the sites and figure out what to send her. Plus, Amazon allows for people to mark the item as purchased elsewhere if folks want to buy something from the list at a brick and mortar.

PS- I accepted a baby shower thrown by a family member for the arrival of my second baby. (Gasp!) My older son was seven when my second was born and I didn't save a thing. Enjoy your shower with your family and friends. You will remember it always. Xo
  • My family is an "in store" kind of shopping crowd, so amazon wouldn't be super effective for them. I'm going with Target (since they're closer to my family) and Babies R Us. BRU for things that I actually want to see in person (like strollers, swings, etc) since they've got a better in store display.

On the second baby shower note: Before TB I had no idea they were "no-no's". In my family and all other showers I've attended, baby showers were just celebrations of a new baby, regardless of birth order.

FYI - Amazon also has a completion discount. 10%

  • I say do what makes you happy. For your personal situation since your family already shops online and would have to anyway even if you went with BRU I would just go with amazon.

  • BRU price matches amazon! It helps a lot!
  • If all of your BRU items are online only, I would ditch it and go Amazon simply because of shipping costs.

I agree with PP though that it's best to have a brick and mortar option too. Do you have a BuyBuyBaby near you? I think they have a wider selection than BRU. Another to consider is Target if you have a good one near you.  A lot of people (myself included) shop last minute for showers, and having a store location is a good thing.

The best case scenario to me would be Amazon + brick and mortar location. If you keep BRU & Amazon, I would make sure to choose some items that will be available in store at BRU.

Also, if you are concerned about Amazon, check out Diapers.com. Their registry was great when I had my first!

  • Thank you for the responses ladies! Definitely gives me a better perspective on what to do :)

And with the 2nd shower part, I was posting that to try to avoid people making comments about it being tacky or anything. I came across a post that I think has been pulled by now (the girl mentioned she was thinking about pulling it and I haven't seen any new responses to it in at least a week) where some people started arguing about it being tacky and whatnot and I felt really bad for the girl. I really just wanted to make sure people weren't going to start doing that on here so please don't blame me for trying to avoid it. If it's really going to end up making an issue with people responding then I'm removing that part of it now (not in any way being snarky saying that so I'm very sorry if it seems like it is.).
