Strollers

Are bugaboo's worth the money?

Re: Strollers

  • I had one with my daughter 8 years ago, and loved it. So much thought is gone into the design of it. I drove a beetle at the time and it wasn't always practical fitting it in my car. My mum also cared for my daughter while I worked and struggled to get on buses with it.

I Intend to buy another one with this baby (bugaboo bee) it's smaller and when folded it's much smaller than the chameleon.

  • I don't know a lot about the Bugaboo, besides it looks like a really nice stroller!

I think we are going to go with the Britax.  It's middle of the road in price, appears to be good for storage, has a high safety rating for its infant car seat (for the travel system version).  It's also the most common stroller I see in my neighborhood which makes me think it must be good for the demands of living in a larger city.
  • We purchased the Bugaboo Donkey for our twins. With practicing with it it's a double stroller and can get through a narrow door, easy to fold, and it's not too bulky. I loved the Britax B-agile double but it's not recommended for 2 toddlers the same weight. It is recommended for a toddler and newborn and does not have 2 travel system attachments. You can only use one travel system at a time. I read lots of blogs/ YouTube videos to determine what seemed to fit us best. I would suggest you doing the same. Good luck! :)
  • I have the Bee for my 2.5yo. I love it. It manuvers like a dream. And I love that the child can face the parents or forward. We are going to buy the new sit and stand board (out this Dec) which adds onto any bugaboo stroller once our new baby arrives. I also love that you can easily change the look of the stroller just by replacing the canopy. We may get a blue one if we find out we are having a boy (we find out this week). We have a red one now.

Strollers are a "get what you pay for" item. Bugaboos are expensive but very high quality. I can steer the Bee with one hand very easily and it turns on a dime. I highly recommend it.

  • We almost bought the Bugaboo Cameleon. I had a friend who had one so we were around it a lot. I loved the fact that it has the bassinet and regular seat option and it is a fantastic, durable stroller. It has a really smooth ride and it's fun to have the option to change the fabric out.

We ultimately ended up deciding against it because my husband and I are both tall, and the bassinet sat much lower than others we tried and it was uncomfortable for us being first time parents. If it wasn't for that small factor, we would have bought it. We ended up going with the Mama's and Papa's Mylo which is the same concept, and we have LOVED it. We have put it through hell and back and it still looks and rides awesome.

I would say get the Bugaboo if you love it, and if it feels right to you - they are worth the money IMO. Just keep in mind that you will need to purchase additional parts like car seat adapters for any of these types of strollers.

  • From all the Moms Ive talked to and research Ive done, you get what you pay for. We were looking at the chameleon and uppa baby vista, we ended up.with the vista because of our needs with a large dog, but it could have gone either way.

  • I had a Frog and loved it. I only got rid of it because I got the itch for something new and traded "up" to a Quinny. I'm a bit of a stroller junkie so I then traded the Quinny for an Xplory. I now have two and can honestly say that I will never own another stroller. PPs are absolutely right: you get what you pay for. If the finances are available, go with the higher quality stroller. You won't regret it.

  • We adore our phil and teds navigator!
  • We almost got a Bugaboo, but went with an Uppababy instead. Saves about $300-400, and I didn't see a huge difference.
  • We looked at both the uppa and the bugaboo.  Went with the uppa because I like the bassinet better.  It is approved for overnight sleeping where the bugaboo isn't.  The uppa also has the ability to attached a sibling seat.  The only double type option with the bugaboo is the donkey and that was way to heavy for me.  Would have definitely done it if we were having twins.  The bugaboo does have better wheels and suspension so if you live in a city it is better for longer walks.

Good to hear. Looks like it will work for twins. I am looking for multi purpose and something they will last while they need a stroller. Baby stuff is so overwhelming. :/. I am open to other suggestions too for twin strollers. I would like a side by side that can fit in doorways or at least most.

If you are willing to spend the money.  The bugaboo donkey is awesome!!! I believe there was a PP who has one for twins.  We looked at it as were are planning to have 2 under 2. It was just a bit big for us now.  However, i would have bought it on the spot if we were having twins.  You can have 2 bassinets, carseats, and toddler seats.  It also pushes in to create a singe just in-case you what to carry one. The storage was big too.  Only thing i was a bit leary about was the price.  Single was almost $1200.  For it as a twin with the double bassinets its over $1500.  Maybe checking on CL or ebay?

Ha! I wish. The bugaboo twin is over $1600. We have so much to buy that a $1600 stroller is not happening. I would consider buying a used, but didn't see any on a google search.

  • We have a city select double. It is the most amazing stroller. My sister in law has the bugaboo and says she loves it as a single, but when they have a second will get the city select. The options, maneuvering and capabilities are great. You do have to buy everything separately, but so worth it.
  • At some point I will post my spreadsheet comparing lightweight double strollers

@chicagojackie‌ brings up a very good point. Some children don't really like strollers. Unfortunately there's no way to know this until your baby arrives. Another thing to think about before investing in an expensive stroller is your lifestyle. Do you walk a lot or go places where you'd use a stroller? If you just go to the mall, a fancy stroller may not be necessary. We have a dog and go on daily walks. Unless it's bad weather, our 2.5yo comes with us. So we are always using the stroller.
