Emailing Baby! Anyone else heard of it or started?

So I came across a pretty neat idea online that we've decided to pursue with our expected baby / kids that I thought I would share on here...

I'm horrible at making time for myself, and I kick myself in the ass every day for not keeping a journal while I was pregnant with my first- so we created an e-mail address for all three of our kids- with the intention of writing periodically each week, and continue to until they're grown- and will give them the user name/password at a certain point in their lives when the time is right- graduating, etc. Just myself, my husband, and our families / grandparents have the addresses.

Just wanted to share because for the first time yesterday, I sent one to the baby that I'm just about 11 weeks pregnant with, and the feeling I got was incredible. It established more of a connection than I've had so far, lets you speak whats on your mind and what you can't say to them just yet, and doubles as a journal and document  how your feeling and when- with details. I e-mailed a picture of the first ultrasound that we just had, and a picture of my belly as it popped this week. It was just a very positive experience that I was in need of. So if any of you moms need a pick me up or a way to remember the details- I suggest trying it out.

Also, as a side note, I also wrote one to my three year old afterwards (We made seperate e-mail addresses for each child). And the difference it was writing to my son, and writing to the baby- was eye opening. Its funny how even though so young, you already have a specific tone and bond set with your kids that's probably steady for the rest of your lives together.. He son is a goofball, so I wrote accordingly. But writing the baby, hell you dont know if its a boy, a girl, it's personality... It just makes you really think about what to expect, and add in a little more excitement of the unknown..

  • I think that's a cool idea. Very sentimental and it'll be special the day they read all the emails and see the pictures and journey of it all. :)

  • that's very cute! ive heard of this before.

will you occasionally  log into the email? don't some of them "shut down" after so long of no activity?

  • I write hand written letters to E and will for this child as well. Actually, I need to get on that for Pip as I had written like 12 letters for E by this time in my pregnancy with her. I keep a binder of the letters to give to her when she is ready - likely when she is off to college.
  • Love the idea! Plan to do it soon!

  • Love this idea! I set one up the day I found out. I wanted to remember everything about that day and how we found out any everything. Especially since you can't gush to everyone you know and I found out before work one day. I couldn't just sit there and not say anything! Gave me an outlet and helped me connect with baby. I've been sending my weekly belly pictures and anything else baby related we've done to it too. Great place to keep all those memories!
  • I keep.journals for each of my girls. And have just picked one up for.this bub. I like the idea of seeing my handwriting...I always thought my mom's handwriting was magical.
  • I've been doing this for DD for a couple of months and will give her the password at her HS graduation. We send her letters, pictures, videos and we're giving her email add to our family so everyone joins in

  • Im new to the group but I love this idea it is so nice to have a connection to our baby's already
  • I keep a journal. I think the email idea is cute but all I can think of is how email could change in the next 20-ish years. 15 years ago I had hotmail, but now I don't know anyone with a hotmail address.

  • I write my daughter a letter every year for her birthday. When she turns 18 I plan to turn them into a little book and give it to her. I would love to have something like that, but I am a very sentimental person.
