Going nuts finding a crib to match Ikea Hemnes set....

We already own the Ikea Hemnes larger dresser which we intend to use in the nursery. For those of you familiar with this line, it's slightly off white and most cribs are bright white. Call me crazy but I can't stand it if the whites clash! I swear everything other nursery picture I see online features the Hemnes dresser so I can't be the only mommy-to-be having this problem. I read on one message board that a mom recommended the Graco Lauren crib as it appears to be the same shade of white as the Hemnes line. Does anyone else have suggestions? I for sure want a white crib. Thanks and cheers to babies in the new year!

Re: Going nuts finding a crib to match Ikea Hemnes set....

  • We have checked the Ikea cribs and the one we like is bright white. The other (Hensvik) matches the dresser but is quite simple - very thin spindles on all sides. We don't want a fancy crib but prefer thicker spindles. If the Graco Lauren option doesn't work, the Ikea Hensvik crib is our plan B.

  • Hi Caldwell, I am trying to find a matching crib as well. What did you end up getting? Thanks so much, Angela
  • What if you buy an unfinished crib and paint it a cool color? I know you prefer white but it could be a cool alternative. Good luck!

  • We just bought and assembled the Hemnes dresser for our nursery, and we got a matching white/off-white shelf from Ikea as well. To avoid having non-matching white furniture we went with matching cherry stained crib and glider. Everything matches in style, and the whites and cherry finishes match each other, but we avoided having to find everything perfectly matching in white.

It also made it easier to find a crib because we just had to find the style we liked (I wanted a sleigh-style crib) and pick a wood finish we liked. And it was pretty easy to find a matching cherry-stain glider.

    Good Luck!

  • We have that dresser & I looked at the ikea cribs & personally just felt like they were lower quality. I know a lot of people like them & we have quite a few things from ikea, but I was not feeling that crib.

We bought the Kendall crib from pottery barn. Our friends have it as well with the hemnes dresser & it looks perfectly fine. I did see a crib at babies r us (can't remember the name or brand & I just deleted the picture from my phone) and it was an off-white color that was similar to the hemnes white. I want to say the crib was $199????

Most likely your crib & dresser are not going to be side by side, so to see the color difference would be hard. Especially when you put on sheets & changing pads, etc, you won't see the difference.

  • Maybe try a different color crib besides white?!?

Most likely we will buy the Hemnes blue dresser with the Lauren graco white crib for our little guy!

This, and that's coming from an interior designer.

I don't think the IKEA cribs are sturdy enough for a heavier older baby myself although I own a ton of IKEA furniture. Also when it comes to matching whites that is the hardest ever thing to do, even if you think you found something that is perfect at a different shop, once you bring it home it might not be the same due to lighting in different areas altering the way we see color.

I'm getting my crib from a shop called Baby Care here or Mamas and Papas in white and I'm getting a dresser, wardrobe, and bookcase in white from IKEA for the nursery, whether they exactly match or not won't be an issue once it's all placed, the dresser+wardrobe are going on one side and they will match being both white IKEA wood and the crib will go on the other side with the couch+book case which will be full of colored toys and books and baskets, I'm also planning to have that wall be a feature wall too so any difference in color won't be a focal point.

  • I got the white Ikea crib for DS. Went into the store and shook all the cribs to see which was the sturdiest. I've been very happy with it - he's four now, and is still using it as a toddler bed. (I went to Target for the mattress, though. The Ikea crib mattresses are really thin.) For the price, I think it was a great purchase, and we'll be using it for DD as well.

Just get a wood colored crib?? This is not really a huge crisis. And now I realize the op is a year old.

  • mjreilly2 stated it might very much have to do with the fact that the cribs at the store are not very well assembledand and are beaten up by customers. I'd take her word over mine since she has actually owned and used the cribs.

  • I have the graco Lauren crib and hemnes dresser both in white, they do not match. Crib is bright white. But they are across the room from each other so it doesn't bother me. Good luck!
  • We have this dresser in white and we got a pali emilia crib in white and they look perfectly fine together. Match and all.
