anyone want to share plans for their co sleeping set up?

I'm planning on co-sleeping again this time around and a lot has changed since last time (my daughter is 11). I didn't really buy any thing special last time, I just made a little nest using a thick rolled edge changing mat. They make so many products for co sleeping these days I'm having a hard time making a plan.
The most practical thing to do, (other than put the mattress on the floor which has been vetoed) seems to be to buy a convertable crib that can be attached to the side of the bed until it's used as a toddler bed/regular bed.
Any thoughts?

  • I uses the arm's reach bedside co sleeper with all three older kids and loved it. Plus it made me feel better if another little one wanted to snuggle at night...baby had her own space.
  • We used the arms reach co sleeper with my daughter. My sister has used it for her two kids too. We both liked it and she will be done using it well before I need it back.

  • We co slept with no special equipment until lo was about 4 months old. Then she wiggled too much. We did what you're planning on doing, attached a crib to our bed. I chose that over a co sleeper because a co sleeper has a dip and I couldn't comfortably nurse lo in the co sleeper while laying down. Also, the co sleeper will be outgrown sooner than a crib. We still have the crib attached to our bed for the nights when lo (19 months) comes into our bed.
  • I used a "snuggle nest" between us in bed with our daughter (gave my husband piece of mind) and when she got too big I switched to putting our convertible crib against the bed with one side dropped down. @KonaiNeto‌ - which cosleeper has a fold-down side?

  • As of now, we are planning on using a mini convertible crib with one side removed attached to our bed. I think

  • With my son, I never bed-shared, but we borrowed my sister's Arms Reach and stationed that next to the bed. I didn't really use the drop-down side, just kept him next to me. But I also was bottle- feeding and pumping at night . . . When DS outgrew the Arms Reach, we put his crib at the end of our bed, where he slept till it was moved to jus own room.

For this baby, I'm thinking we might get a smaller pack'n'play with a bassinet, since travel will involve two babies, it a baby and a tot, so it'll be useful. Either that, or we'll just use our existing p'n'p.

I'm the heavier sleeper between DH and me, so I have to see how well it'll work having LO in our room once he/she starts STTN.
  • We are using a fold-down bed rail right now. DD may still be in bed with us when baby comes (please a God, no!) because she wakes up every hour. I'm too tired to hike around at night more than twice. If she still stinks at sleeping, we'll add the arms reach co sleeper for baby. Our queen bed is already feeling small!

  • We have a king sized bed and until our kids can get off the bed safely, the mattress was on the floor. We have a bed railing on the side of the bed that's for toddlers. It's mesh. And our order goes bed railing, baby, me, older baby, daddy. I have no clue what we are going to do with #3. Hopefully move 1 and maybe 2 to their rooms.

  • We used a Graco Travel Lite Portable Crib right next to our bed and it worked great for the newborn and early infant stages. Once DS got a little bit bigger, we coslept in our bed until he was 1 year old. I'll be reusing the portable crib with this baby but I'm not sure if we'll be cosleeping again.

  • We never bed shared by we coslept until DS1 was 6 months and until DS2 was 10 months. With this baby we will have him/her in a bassinet by the bed and then in a pack n play once they out grow the bassinet. My BIL and his wife side-carred a crib with the one side off to their bed for the first year I believe and loved it.
