Due to recent discussions on mopping, it is time to poll all of O13. So how often do you actually mop?

  • I use a shark steam mop like once a week. I usually vaccum when I vaccum the rest of the house though.

  • I thank you kindly for my custom answer of every 2 months. DISCLAIMER, though, my kid is denied access from the kitchen, which is the grossest floor, and my dog is denied access to the living room, hence it stays pretty clean and is covered by a giant area rug and foam tile set anyway. Pre-baby, I was more like every 2-4 weeks, with spot touch-ups as needed for dirty paws, etc.

    No problem! ;)

DD only gets in the kitchen and hallway on the days after I mop. My "schedule" is clean house on Mondays, everything except mopping. Tuesday I get up sweep again and mop, then that is also my biggest laundry day. She likes following me back and forth to the laundry room. Well I don't know if she actually likes it but I think it's funny to watch her get all the way down the hall just for me to turn around. She doesn't complain though.

  • Okay I hardly mop either, like once a month maaayybe. But I also feel like it makes a huge difference if you stay at home. We're at home getting the floors dirty like 4 hours a day? If that? And I spot clean obviously...but there's just not that much time for them to get THAT dirty.

We are at home with a dog on a farm. DH and DS track in all kinds of shit. I should probably mop more.

Every night before bed I mop the entire downstairs (upstairs is carpet) but I have a shark floor cleaner so that's why my arms are still flabby otherwise I imagine I'd have triceps out of this world. On Sunday nights and Wednesday nights I mop and then steam mop. #imacrazypersoniknow

Tell me you don't have hardwoods. I can't get down with a steam mop on hardwoods, which is why I don't have one. Our house is like 90% wood and linoleum in the kitchen and baths. Not worth it to only steam clean 3 rooms.

  • I think shoes/no shoes in the house would make a difference on how often you mop too.

  • About once a week or every other week I use the Shark steam mop.  We started taking off our shoes when DD started crawling.  This week with the kitchen renovation, however, my house is a disaster.

  • We only have tile in the kitchen so once a week. My LO loves doing laps around the kitchen table so I have to keep it clean so she can get her crawl on

My kitchen (all tile ) which leads to the yard has constant traffic so I know they need to be cleaned often ... Upstairs I have hardwood floors which get dusty and I have a shark vacuum that is good for rugs and floors ... I spend more time in my kitchen , maybe I should be upstairs more often but #ineedtobeclosetothefridge

  • I pay someone to mop every other week.

  • I hand wash my floors so I only get time once a week. I hate mops & don't even own one. The floor really should be cleaned 2-3 times a week. Even though we both work full time they get gross fast.
DS thinks it's cool to tip his bottle upside down & watch the milk spill everywhere + 3 pets + a boyfriend who doesn't know how to take his shoes off.

I would be too scared to use one on mine. If you have any areas where the poly is thin or worn on your floorboards, you'll be steaming the wood itself. I try to put as little liquid on my hardwoods as infrequently as possible.

  • @sleepy33, when I was looking into our steam mop it was suggested that not all hardwood floors use the poly finish so some hard wood floors would be ok to steam mop, but not all.

I mop the kitchen and vacuumt he rest of the house about 3 times a week...

Eh, like 99% of residential hardwood floors are finished with poly, either water based or oil based. No finish can be guaranteed to cover 100% of all the floor boards, plus as your boards expand and contract with the weather, water can seep into the cracks between the board. Finish naturally wears thin in high traffic areas, exposing the wood. I also am a little nutty about our floors, though, b/c we spent a billion hours refinishing them ourselves.
