Registry/Shower Question

This is my 3rd LO but I've never had a shower and the ladies at the church in our new town are eager to throw one together for me in a couple of weeks. Obviously I totally accepted since I've never had any type of shower before - wedding or baby - and I am thrilled!

Anyway, I'm throwing together a registry at Target for it. I've had registries before but for the coupons and to keep track of things myself. I've never used an actual diaper bag and I am wondering if it's strange to put more than one on the registry? I picked out maybe 2-3 at most, different color schemes, because I know sometimes they may not have one you're looking for and an interested buyer would easily have another option if one was out of stock...?

I'm trying to be thoughtful and not tacky in this process.

  • I would just register for one and hope it's in stock. Having three different diaper bags would make me think you want ALL THREE. Most registries have a selection to add a Gift Card to your list. If someone specifically wants to buy you something that's out of stock, they can go with that instead.
  • All great points!!! I will narrow it to one. @Nicb13‌ Considering I've never used a legit baby bag, I don't know if I'd ever have put one on a registry but I'm trying to come up with things I don't have which is mostly everything for infants aside from clothing. I have obscene amounts of infant girl clothes from the first two + stuff they never wore already.
  • I imagine there are quite a few things that you could register for that would be used. Do you think you'd actually use your diaper bag? If not, I wouldn't register for one, two, or three.

To your original question, if you do register, just register for one bag unless you want multiple bags.

  • I accidentally registered for 2 at buybuybaby. The very first item that someone purchased was one of those diaper bags. Once I realized that I had another on my registry I deleted it. I was happy that they selected the bag that I intended to register for.

So to answer your question, I would only register for 1, just to cut down on confusion...

  • I didn't register for 2 diaper bags, but ended up with 2 different one and was glad i did in the end.  I had a larger one one that was more girly and dh had a smaller one tat was plain black.   loved mine at first since I was a FTM I carried a shit ton of stuff with me.  After dd was few months old, though, I switched to just using dh's because of the smaller size.

  • I registered for 2, one for me (k looks like a purse) and a diaper dude for DH.
Me: 33 - PCOS & Hypothyroidism DH: 35 - SA is good Married since 2010 (together since 2006) TTC since June 2009 (we knew we would have issues and wanted family right away after we got married). No pregnancies yet. May 2013 - started first round of Chlomid & ovidrel cycle.
  • I agree with PP's. Putting more than one diaper bag on the registry might confuse your buyer. Have you seen the diaper bags in person? I would just narrow it down to the one you like the best. If you change your mind later you could always go in and exchange it.

As far as worrying about it being out of stock, just check your registry often! Unless you prefer to be surprised... but I check my Target registry every few days or so, and sometimes things do get discontinued. At that point I update my registry by deleting the item and/or finding a replacement.
  • Thanks everyone. I decided to do just one diaper bag for me and a back pack type for DH for when he has the baby by himself which I think will eventually likely be quite often during week days.
  • Put things on the registry that you need. With my son, I literally received everything I registered for. I did register for a small and large diaper bag... we use the small one every day and the large one for long days out.

We tend to be pretty practical. The only thing I've done so far is diapers and our preferred wipes, baby hygiene products, bottles and breastmilk storage, and now a diaper bag.

An extra diaper bag can be useful. Especially if you'll have another caregiver. Registered for 2, one for DH and one for me like you did. Got DHs and my SIL kicked down hers to me and the one she got for her MIL that no longer uses it. Now I have 3 :D

  • I don't think my DH really cares at all if it's for the baby but I know he prefers to carry a back pack style usually.
  • I Feel like the diaper bag is something good to buy yourself and see in person so you know you really like it. Kind of like a purse. You don't really have someone else buy you a purse.
  • My diaper bag is a snazzy lady bag and I want my husband to have a dashing man bag. Something he can continue using in the future.

I'm realizing that I like that style more too so I bought myself a pretty black and yellow back pack one with flowers on it. Sorry DH :)

I actually asked him about it last night and he goes "oh god, is this what you guys talk about on that Bump site you go to?!". LOL

    Duh!! Life's most difficult questions!!
  • Somehow I accidentally registered for 3 diaper bags. I registered for the one I liked at BRU and DH did want one for himself so we found one he liked at Target. Apparently though I had a second bag on my Target registry. I have no memory of adding it but of course someone bought it already. So now I have 3. I guess I'll be returning one. The same thing happened with a pack n play so either my pregnancy brain is acting up or Target is adding things to/not deleting things from my registry.

  • My DH likes to think he doesn't care but every time I get him something that's not close to his style (because it was a better deal or whatever), he ends up not using it ever or complaining about it constantly, much to my annoyance!

I initially registered for a diaper bag but I didn't really find one I really liked so I just took it off. The prices also seemed a little much for what you get? IDK. Anyway I needed something where baby and college supplies can coexist so I ended up buying a plain laptop backpack that I've seen used as a diaper/laptop bag. DH is concerned that it doesn't look like a diaper bag, lol.

  • @leela02

I used to just use tote bags for school stuff/diapers bag. I really have never liked diaper bags or the look of any diaper bags. I was also in my earlier 20s and trying to still stylishly strut through the streets of Boston. I felt like people would never take me seriously in my industry if I was carrying a diaper bag. There was no resentment or anything towards baby but I felt a need to make being married and having a baby look possible and cool in my industry.

Now I live in the country, I do school online and work from home so I just don't care anymore.
  • I have more diaper bags than I'm willing to admit to...but DH has one that he carries since mine are all pretty obnoxious - either huge or VERY pink!  We didn't register for it, my parents gave it to him as a gift before DD was born.  I still can't find one I like though...I want organization!

I understand. Unfortunately my university doesn't offer any online versions of the classes I need! I really just want to avoid carrying 2 bags if I need school & baby stuff at the same time (which I'm predicting will be the usual), because being a small-framed person it gets awkward and unwieldy.
