  Maybe you could wrap a baseball in a cute little white box. Then write something like "Newest Little Cardinal, Coming April 2015" on the baseball with a Sharpie in fancy lettering. If you could get a baseball with a Cardinals logo on it, that would be even better!

  We gave a golf ball that said "you're a grandpa!" On it to my fil for our dd. my hubs told this story about how he went golfing the day before and almost had a hole in one and wanted to give the ball to his dad. You could somehow do that with a baseball!
